dohc 4g63 pluming help needed

Post by dont_do_that44 »

hey im half way through doing a soch to doch conversion on a 1984 l200 ute but here is a little story about what ive done before i ask for help. i am using a 1989 galant doc 4g63 cyclone engine withe the standard 5 speed gearbox out of the ute. i have cut the firewall to alow the engine to sit on original mounts. converted the intake to forward facing and now wiring and plumbing it up. now this is where i need help because i forgot to lable where the water pipes go to from the throttle body. i know one of them goes to the water pump via the pipe at the back of the motor by the gearbox. any help would be appreciated.

the pipe that comes from the water pump you speak of goes back towards transaxle and then is supposed to be used for the lower rad hose(fwd). The thermostat housing bolts on the back of the head and is supposed to go to upper rad endtank.

The hoses off the tb can be ran pretty much however you want to, but, from the factory(fwd) they go to that same pipe(from the water pump) that wraps around the backside of the head(runs along with the firewall now).

Hope that helps

Bill's right

IMHO it depends on your climate to be honest. If it gets super cold I would hook them up.

I thought it was so water vapor wouldn't freeze the tb open. I have done this in my Integra, and the throttle has been known to stick and the motor wont rev below 3k or so. A simple pop of the hood and wiggling the tb spring works. This has been on -10 below zero winters in Indiana. Its only happened a few times. Just if your on the interstate, let your tb close every once in a while.

but there is another thing u can do
instead the pipe from the water pump all the way 2 the back into the goose neck u can plug off the line an on the water pump outlet
u will see another water jacket...
that water jacket can be removed and u can fabricate a pipe 2 go there..
that will be the "in' 2 your radiator
and the out will be from the goose neck( thermostart unit)
that will save u by not having 2 turn around the ports in your radiator and a set of hoses....
4g63 rwd..........
