Mitsubishi 6 Bolt Crank Pattern

Post by lsr mike »

Well this is about the hardest peice of information I've ever had to find for this engine.

here's a link to a drawing I got which looks like its for a 2 Axis Milling Machine, but it gives you the 60 degrees between centers of the holes and the sizes of the holes.

Mr. Bill Hincher supplied some more info, in particular it's a 30MM radius, or 60 MM Diameter center to center.

here's the link to the .PDF drawing

All because i can't keep a clutch in this thing.

Mike > Are you using a DSM flywheel? I just can't imagine a ACT pressure plate, 1G fwd flywheel, and any 225mm clutch disc slipping in a rwd. I would think the tires would lose traction before the clutch did.

Well it's a Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel, a Clutchnet (Internet) level 3 Pressure Plate, and a 6 Puck Clutch.

It would hold in lower gears but in 4th at 137 MPH it would just slip

This should hold.

That almost looks like a quarter master on a GM auto flex-plate..?

Maybe its NOT the clutch so much as down force in the back gaining exponentially, and the weakest link at speed is the clutch..?
Do you have a wing back there?

BUT, that still sounds kinda goofy. It should slip at lower speeds as it tries to get the vehicle moving faster.
Who knows, maybe the pucks weren't riveted on correctly..?

What rpm are you turning at 137?

137=Speed at which the wind resistance of the car overcomes the ability of the clutch to hold the power required to gain additional mph.

the old ford coil spring set ups had a centrifical force set up in the release fingers that gripped harder with more speed

Ding! Ding! Ding! we have a winner! In Land Speed Racing you actually roll out slow and build speed, no real rush to get to the end because it's all about the MPH at the end, not time to complete the 1-3 mile track. And yeah, the truck has lousy aero qualities, hence the different classification, otherwise I'd be competing against slippery little 2 seater GT's.

It is a Quartermaster Twin Disc. The Quartermaster has it's own "Button Flywheel" and the flexplate is just for the starter.I had to scrap the Flex Plate It's actually a Mitsubishi Automatic Flexplate that would be in the truck if it was an auto tranny. But its 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. The Fidanza seen above is being machined down to accept the Quartermaster flywheel.

The whole package is about $1,300

WOW, I actually won!

Any thoughts now on how to 'gradually' kick in the turbo?

What is the max tread depth for the driven tires?

Ok been busy lately making the clutch setup fit.

everything all bolted up right? WRONG!

Image

off by this much! (10MM)

Heres the before and after of the Flywheel, where the 10MM was machined out.

Image

Image

I also needed a spacer to center the New Button Flywheel onto the old flywheel.

here;s everything fitted together...

Image

Notice how the Button Flywheel fits nicely down into the old Aluminum one.

Ok, the newly dimensioned package on the Crank.

The entire package ready to be installed in the engine bay

Just one final shot for the Tuff Pan Fans!

good day's work. It runs again, and I was able to go thru all 5 gears and back down again on the jack stands. Now to get the hood back on, check the tune and look for fluid leaks, and i think it will be time to take a trip around the block and smoke the skins!
