2rd Gen Montero Sport 5 speed transmission

Post by remarque »

I saw a 1999 Montero Sport with a 4G64 and 5 speed transmission at the pull a part. Anyone else seen one or have any info on it.

I'm in the state east of you lol, and the mitsubishi's at the pull a part are mostly complete minus the Eclipses. Do you know if the blocks in the 3rd gen eclipse and 8th gen Galant are short or long block?

i believe your terminology is off.

Typically a "long block" is any engine from oil pan to valve cover(s) which may or may not include accessories. Sometimes intake or exhaust manifolds will still be there depending on who you are buying from.

"Short Block" typically refers to oil pan to just under the head gasket and normally doesn't have more than than that.

If you are referring to deck height, the 4g64 has 6mm more height than the 4g63, making its "longer" block i guess...

Anyways the specifics of the blocks are all on this site, before you go to the forums mouse over the 4g3X swaps header, and there is tons of info there.

Best of luck man

i'd love to put that drive train in my 87 ram 50 2.0 5spd. i want more truck worthy low end torque than that short stroke 2.0 can provide and i believe the montero 2.4 was a dual cam engine with like 150 hp on 87 octane.

Remarque....where are you located? i'm in maine about an hour north of boston. either i will find a 6 bolt narrow block 2.4 from an early 90's but a montero with the full setup would make for a more potent swap and i'd have all the other bits needed for the upgrade to fuel injection, etc.

Montero 2.4's are the same as the Mighty max Pickups. SOHC. they're covered in the same manual.

I'm located in North Carolina and lsr mike is right the engine is SOHC. I've just never seen one before. I wanted to know if the engine was a narrow or wide block, cause I was thinking about putting it in my 86 Ram 50. if the transmission is the same I might get that too. The montero is still in yard and looks un touch. There's also another 86 Ram 50 with power steering that I want to get.

I have a 86' Ram 50 Sport and it has lines for A/C but the condenser, dry etc is missing. Is the condenser from 2nd gen the same as the 1st Gen?

only 2.4's with the narrow block were in some of the very early 90's mitsu cars. also, 2.4's had a 7 bolt crank by 1994 so it would be best to save yourself the trouble and just swap the engine and trans as a unit. everyone knows it is best to just get all the parts you need from one donor vehicle unless you are building some Frankenstein hybrid.
