I am new to the swap idea and i started looking.
I have a 86 wide body, full cage and 6 bolt rear end. i was welding up the head on the g54b but got tired of the motor. If i get a 2.0 block then i am going to do the 2.3 stroker. But what do you guys think is a better start? The 2.0 or the 2.4? And is there a "how to" add the oil squirters for the pistions? I am planing on running the 1st gen eclipse ecu and the dsmlink.
So for now i look at all the junk yards for the golden wide block. So am i looking for the G63B, and the 4g64? I know they have to be 13 1/4 wide.
What is better, wide 2.4 or 2.0?

I'd stay away from the 2.3L stroker motor. I was under the impression that the reason it became popular was becuase the NHRA rules required a stock block, but crank didnt matter. So naturally people built a stroked 2.0->2.3 because a 2.4L would be illegal. And then all the DSM wieners were like.. hey X did it and Y did it so it must be better than running a 2.4 so that means I should shut down my brain, cease thinking on my own, and do it the way they did it.
Its not really that the 2.0 or 2.4 is better or worse. I went with the 2.4 because I had a block basically given to me, but also becuase it costs the same to build a 2.4 it as it would to build a 2.0.. but I get more torque and faster spool. Next time I might do the 2.1 destroker though. It just looks like a blast to drive now that I have the RX7 transmission stuff going my way.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
The very first “strocker” 4G6x motor was done by Jeff Copartner, around 1998. This was done for Bill Lawrence’s (very old time DSMer) ONLY4 car . They actually used a 2.4L block and adapted a 2.0 Turbo head on it. Once they were done, it was their opinion that it is much easier to just take 2.4 crank and stick it into the 2.0 block (rather than having to have to deal with making engine front plate/timing belt work). And so Jeff’s company (Forced Performance) went on as the first to offer 2.3L strocker motors.
2.4 engines didn’t become popular again until Mugnus started to have some success with them in the early ‘00s.
If NHRA has any rules regarding 2.0 vs 2.4 motors (I am not aware of any), that is some very resent development and has very little to with what people have been doing in the past. What DSMer races with NHRA, anyway?
But consider this, pretty much ALL fast DSMers are still using 2.0 L motors! Eventually, they might be forced to move up in displacement to compete against the 3.0 Toyotas. But the fact remains, 2.0 is just as capable as 2.4 when it comes to going fast. 2.4L certainly has a potential of making more power (no replacement for displacement, or something like that
), but at this point, I wouldn’t go out of my way to get a 2.4L motor!

i guess what block i find i will use, if i find a 2.0 then i will stoke it, if i find a 2.4 sweet. This is going to be my street car so i care less about rules. Also i talk to a few DSM guys and they pull the oil squrters out. They say there more troble then its worth. Umm... i thought the oil helps cool the pistions? My buddy pulled 388whp (pump gas) with a small T3/T4 on his gst. He has a big T3/T4 on the way and hks cams. So it should be fun.
I would like a 2.4, i am planing on running a 60-1 so.. more displament would help with spool. i was plaining on moving the motor back as far as i could so i might have to kill the power breaks, and cut the fire wall. no big deal.
How weak is the starion trans, Really? i am planing 500hp with out the nitrous, and 600 to 650 with. So i need to think about a trans.
The plan for this car is a road race/drift car.
Anyone convert the starion to rack and pinion yet? I have not started, also i am making a fuel cell that takes the place of the back seats. Going for a 50/50, well as close as i can.

I've done the rack and pinion. Used the front crossmember, hubs, brakes, control arms, struts from a 240SX. Its not DONE yet, but its close. Wont be able to test it till the whole thing is done.

So... you are going to find a 2.0 block to stroke... where are you getting a crank to stroke it with? The 2.4! Just get the 2.4 since they'll have to pull the crank from it anyways.
