4g52 head swappin??

Post by 77amc »

Hey, I've been messing with this 2.6 for well over a year and for all the work I've done to it, it can barely get out of it's own way

Taking it for it's 'maiden' ride, which was very disappointing, The temp jumped up lots more than what it's ever been..210
Had tons of pressure in the cooling system so I think that the head cracked..

Off to the yards.. I found a really clean 79 ram-50 with a g52 in it and it looked like just a smaller cube 2.6.. SO, is it?? Will the g52 head fit on the 88 2.6 g54b block??

The mileage was only showing (067332)!!!!! The head was practically glued on and I really think that it was original.
I took the gasket too and when I got home put it against the other cracked 2.6 head and it looked like it would swap (might raise the comp slightly though)

If it doesn't, I might pull it all out and 'fit' in my Chevy 406 with an overdrive 8)

Great! God was telling me to take the intake also. Glad I listened.

You or anyone know if the valves are smaller too? I did notice that the plenum is lower than the runners and they go upward slightly to the head.
I wonder if they had a problem with fuel 'puddling' under the carb?

Then I'll start to clean it up and port it out again. It looked nice and with NO visable cracks either..

Thank you sir.

Now, this trans would be a wide or narrow? I'm not sure if all the Astron blocks were wide..?

My back was too sore to crawl under there to look, plus I didn't have a measuring tape.
