evo manifolds
Exhaust manifold:
Will it bolt up to the 1g head? I fell like I read into this before and it needs to be spaced out or the turbo will hit the block. I'm not finding a thread on it now though.
Intake manifold:
Can I swap a 1g flange onto the mani or are the ports too large? If so would I need to use a 2g flange to mate the evo mani to the 1g head?

I can give 1st hand experience on the evo Exhaust mani...It will bolt on without the turbo attatched
but since you want to run a turbo I have 2 theorys on what to do. 1. Run a spacer. Only thing I didn't like about this was the added stress on the aluminum head with the weight placed farther out. or 2. you may beable to get a stainless ebay manifold or something and angle the turbo flange out enough from the motor to keep it from hitting the block. If anyone else has any other ideas, hopefully they can pitch them to ya!
Ok...to eliminate all assumptions then here:
Just like with your typical 14b, s16g, b16g...the Evo 3 16g turbo can bolt directly to the 1g manifold/evo manifold of the corresponding year and work perfectly. All you have to do is flip the dang turbo.
For the NEW Evo 16gs, assuming they are from an evo 9 or older evo, you will need to re read my first post on this page. I hope this helps eliminate any confusion.

gotcha
lol. Yea, as for the Evo Mani its been discussed numerous times. If you want to use it, get with Bill...for alot of this stuff man, you just gotta search. We'll always answer with what we can, but you'll get alot of info alot faster...and learn WAY more...when you search it instead of looking to have it gifted to ya. Ask away, just keep looking through other posts to keep learning too!
Evo Inlet manifolds (JDM)
Evo 1-3: inlet manifolds are basically the same as the US g2 manifolds.
Evo 4-5: port sizes are the same as the g2, however the throttle body is facing the other way to the g2 and g1. These manifolds had no egr port at all. Weight wise they are significantly lighter and have much thinner wall thickness than earlier manifolds meaning that you can't easily fit these to a g1 head 4g63 head, however they can fit a 4g61 head with an adapter plate. They will fit a g2 head with either an adapter plate or by welding on the g2 flange and blocking the egr port. Injector ports are in the manifold and these need to be filled if using an adapter plate.
Evo 6-9: similar to the Evo 4-5 accepted these have an egr port.
Evo 10: no idea sorry as different engine family.

i assumed that it is common knowledge that the 1-3 evo is the same as dsm stuff and the evo 10 is a whole different engine family and quite different overall. Of course where your at you have them all floating around. Here in the US the lack of evo models would have you infer 8 or 9.dwlee wrote:Sorry shroder15, I was more getting at the original poster. The problem is more with the inlet side of things.
It looks as though I was remembering correctly then. I was going to swap a mighty max before and had it all planned in my head. It was traded but now a bit later I've stumbled onto a d50 with a g63b. I'd love to make the extra tdo5hr-16g6-9.8t I have work.
Can anyone help me find a pic of the evo turbo mounted (or nearly mounted to show specifically where it lacks clearance)? I recall seeing a thread with someone making a spacer but I can't find it. I'm really doing poorly with the search function here
Seeing as the cheap ebay manifolds are only a tad more than a used stock piece the idea of angling the flange out is sounding pretty good. Most seem to hold up well without cracking as well, and I can always tig that sob back together until there's nothing left of it. Plus the added tubular manifold bling doesn't hurt. I may be sold on that idea, thank you shroder!
LOL. Glad I can help. If you get the ebay manifold, just make sure you brace the turbo/downpipe somewhere like the eclipses/evo's do from the factory to keep as much weight off the manifold as possible. The stock evo 8/9 turbo hit on the inlet side at the upper balance shaft casting. Hope this helps man!

SO, Which EVO ((INTAKE)) manifold will bolt to a 1.8 Elantra DOHC head, Large port (on a 4g61t block) that will facilitate a REAR WHEEL DRIVE application?
7, 8, 9, ..?
I most likely won't be using a EGR, I don't have emissions that are strict like some others.
Correct me if i'm wrong but do the EVO intakes have the injector bosses in them? It looked like the one that Bill was modding had them at the ends.
AND, what is the 'going price' of such an intake?
Thanks. E

only the evo3 really bolts up to a 1g head. and it still faces the same way as the original 1g head. Bill and I were just going over this(he bumped the post)
I was going to make an "sandwich" style adapter that would ease the transition from small to big port but i couldn't get info in regards to flow problems, and ended up buying a SMIM. Ill go snap some pics of an EVO8 mani i have on a 1g head, and in the truck so you can see for yourself. Pics will be up late tonight at the latest
