B2600 bell housing to Miata 5 speed ?

Post by JDOliver »

From what I have been able to find the Miata 5 speed is basically the same for all years.

The Rx7 turbo appears to be a beefed up version with a different bell housing, which as we know with the b2600 bell housing becomes useful. solomiata seems to have some info but not enough.

Reason being I picked up a Miata with several miles and am looking a future swap options. I don't think a 4g64 Miata has been done. I haven't measured engine length or depth to see if it's easy.

Non turbo RX-7 bellhousings are integral(non removable).

A 4g63, possibly 4G64 Miata is in order.

The Miata is a great platform to throw our motor into. I have thought about this swap many many times. I'm sure you can make one of the transmissions available (allowed with the Hencher bell housings)

First that is totally not true. The non turbo transmission, aka the Type M style transmission, is a three piece style transmission. I know cause I took one apart.

Now to answer the OP question.

The T2 transmission and the N/A transmission are nothing alike. The T2 is a type R transmission and the N/A Rx7 & miata 5spd are both Type M.

Biggest difference between the R type and M type, is the input shaft and output shafts are different sizes.
