New guy doing a Mighty Max turbo swap

Post by DropEverything »

Well, I've stumbled across this site enough times looking for info on this swap, so I figured I might as well join since this seems to be where most of that info is concentrated. I'm still a little confused about a couple of things, but I thought I'd at least introduce myself before I went and started a build thread or started asking a bunch of questions.
I live near Raleigh, NC. I've been working at a dealership there for about 6 years, and I've been tinkering with anything that could be taken apart for as long as I can remember. I've had plenty of other projects, but this is probably the first real go-fast attempt I've made with any of them. I'll try to get some progress pics and a build log started soon.

Cool, what are your plans / goals for the truck? Any pics?

Hopefully I'll end up with something that's reliable and fun to drive. I don't want a total sleeper, but I'm getting tired of all the ricers around here sitting beside me at a red light, revving the piss out of their little econo-box with a fart cannon, and expecting me to race them just because my exhaust makes a little bit of noise. It'd be so
fun to see the looks on their faces when they hear that thing spool up and see me blow past them in a beat up little truck. I've alreadygot my donor car; a 90 FWD Eclipse turbo. The main thing I'm a little confused about is which trans to use. My truck is a 94, and as far as I can tell, that one isn't going to work.
And, yes I do have pics. I just haven't had a chance to upload them yet. Also, I was looking at your build thread the other day, and I'm pretty much doing the same kind of swap on a smaller budget.

Trans choice brings a few questions, do you want a manual or auto? How much power are you planning to make?

I definitely want a manual and I'm probably going to shoot for about 300hp, maybe a little less, but you know how these things can get out oh hand.

You may want to look into Bill Hincher's toyota adapter bellhousings, that would be your best option, you will have to install a hydro clutch master cyl on the truck though.
