Newbie with some introductory questions

Post by Backtobasics »

I am reading stickies now, but still have some starting questions:

What: 1975 Dodge Colt 1.6 auto
When: As time allows
Where: Kansas City
Why: HP at the tip of the throttle
How: You tell me....

I have a 1975 Colt, that I intended to make our drag car. Initial plans were small block Mopar swap. The direction is changing a bit, I now want to build a sprite / quick little car, that I can play with at the strip from time to time, and also enjoy driving to work from time to time, etc.

I am leaning towards 4G63 swap, with TH350, 700R4, or 4L60E swap. The TH350 would be cheapest, and with the light weight, a tall rear gear would still give plenty of RPM range for highway, plus loading the turbo.

Differential will probably be a cut down 8 3/4 Mopar. I have an A body one lying around, but the A body posse would probably scalp me for cutting an A body housing, so I would probably find a B or C body and cut it down. This diff is nice for the quick gear changes.

Biggest questions surround trans. Is there anyone besides Buschur that makes the engine to trans adapter? What about the torque converter?

For my own education, beyond the stickies, is there any other literature / site / source I sould be reading so I can understand these engines better? I guess I lean more towards old school (70 Challenger and 76 Dart in stables) but I am not opposed to homework. Past turbo experience was GMC Typhoon.

Check out the last post in this thread for your trans options: http://projectzerog.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=300

And www.VFAQ.com for more info on the 4g63 than you can handle.
