Should have a 904 , I don't think they got a500 till later. But there are plenty of websites that sell upgraded parts for them.

Mustard, Is that right? I picked up a 86/87 one, fluid still looked/smelled good but decided against it because i didn't know how to wire it up so the converter could/would lock.

If you know what to look for, let me know.. I have it out on the shop floor.
I did find some shops that make 'kits' for the fwd auto talons and such, but didn't even ask about these.

Being that it is a Chrysler transmission lots of parts and info are out there. Here is a site after just typing A904 in a search browser.

I'm sure hot rod or car craft has articles about 727, A904, A500. I had actually considered getting a A500 out of a 90 Mighty Max 4g64. But I ended up deciding to use my Toyota W58 trans instead, I just prefer manual. The Starion/Conquest auto is supposed to be fairly decent, but build up parts are harder to find. I mostly see Jatco's used in AUS drag set ups. Where Keas used to sell parts for them and I think had a distributor in FL, but I've never heard anything new about them lately or even if they are around still.

auto trans

I have the same truck and I have been doing my transmission homework and the "BABY 904" transmission in the Japanese imports is different from the Torque Flight 904 that came behind small block and slant 6 Mopars. I have seen it called the "BABY 904" on a few other forums and websites, I guess this is like slang, I don't think Chrysler or Mitsubishi would call it that. The pan and filter are different. The case is smaller. SOME of the internals are the same. I read on the "For A bodies only" forum that the frictions and steels have the same part number for both transmissions. If I find out more, I will post it.
I will be interested in your SOCH=>DOCH conversion progress. I am thinking about the same thing.

Yea, I wasn't sure if the 904 behind the 318's and the 2.0/2.4 Mitsu was exactly the same sans the bellhousing and converter.

if you are going to choose between a 904 or a 727 in a torqueflite trans, which one would you choose? and why? whats the lightest/strongest combination? for the higher HP set ups?

I am curious to see how these pan out, JP, you had a narrow block version of one, right?

The 904 trans has lighter internals and does not "consume" as much HP as the beefier 727. However the 904 properly prepared can handle high HP, and has been drag raced in lightweight cars with lower torque engines, the 727 is suited to heavier cars producing more torque.

I have built and run both wide/narrow 2.0's-2.4's-but I have not had any personal experience with running the Auto transes from said cars.
