Bill,
Looks like a great idea to me...Depending on where the base of the shifter sits (fulcrum) this would dictate how long the throws are, so you could vary that (if space permits) and relocate the shifter and get shorter throws all with one step. Looks good, Bill. Good Job! Merry Christmas everybody.

your setup would be better as far as function goes i think. but space is very limited on most of these cars that are getting swapped. personally i didnt want to cut my trans tunnel if i didnt have to and that would be the only way to fit something that large and not have the trans hang very low. if there was a way you could make the shifter extension like i bought from tech2 and make it work better so it doesnt shift like a 1918 john deer thats rotting out in a field its whole life that would be a sweet deal.

For me, that would be a prefect solution. In the truck, I've moved the engine about 3" forward and thus the transmission too. The shifter seems to be a little too far forward and with too much throw. So your device would solve that for me...move the shifter back, and shorten the throws. Correct me, but this in on a w58?

I can build it much lower , I have it figured out but I just want to keep down the complexity of the machine time required and the cost , I never wanted to open the rear case to provide the correct shifter but its not hard to do

This happens to be the R 154 but it works out the same as the W 55, just a little different bolt pattern

The remote shifter would sure as hell solve my problem. Here is a picture of the engine sitting in my '85 RX-7, the tape measurer shows about how far away the engine is from the shifter hole, and as far as I know the D50, W55, and R154 are not that long. Surprisingly the RX-7 transmission is about that long, the shifter looks like it is extended on it though. I was originally going to scrap this project due to rust in the back, but after cutting most of it out, it doesn't seem all that bad now.

Here's a pic of about where I want the engine to sit when it's finally in place.

At the moment I don't have any toyota transmission, I'm going to try and pick up an R-154, but if I can't get my hands on one, I'll settle for a W series.

Well, it looks like I just picked up a W58 trans, so I will end up needing a remote shifter for the W series (as well as a bellhousing). I'll send you a PM after I get the engine mounted so I know how long of an extension I'll need.

I think this is a great idea. However, with the wide variety of swaps these things are going in, I don't think you could make a "one size fits all" shifter extension. I'm sure I'll need something like this since my seating position is all the way back to the rear seats. It would help me to not have to sit forward to shift. I'm sure I'll end up building something like this, but I don't know how feasible it is to build a batch for swaps.

If I'm wrong, then great. I'd love to see Bill keep building great things and helping out the community. Doesn't the 1JZ version of the R154 have some kind of extension like this you could borrow ideas from? Keep up the great work.

Seems like there are a few people (including me) that would be willing to buy and test it out for the W58 transmission if you decide if its a feasable solution. Any update so far :)

yeah, its my next step. I just gotta get my energy back

Its a long story , but its been a tough winter, we thought my wife may have had brain cancer , she will need surgury but we think its just a cyst in her jaw at this time

I got some promises to keep on the w & r series housing and then i want to build the mounts and build the right shifter for the starion

but I am having a tough time keeping pace with building the housings I got and R&D of the new housings and building the shifters
