Hey Everyone, Jon here from Kalamazoo MI
I am getting ready to do a RWD 2G for next season, and I am looking for good ideas on Trans and Rear Diff setup. We are planing on running between 450-550 HP, on a Standard 4g63 6 Bolt Narrow Block. We have not decided on trans. I was thinking Powerglide 2 speed, but I did not know if it would hurt with my lower than average HP Rating. Also, I have been told that using a Ford 9" might be overkill, and slow me down, since they are bulky and I will not be putting near the torque that they hold.
My new idea, is a Turbo 350, with a Chevy 8.5 rear end. Is this a decent setup for my HP Rating? Our goal is mid 10's and be able to run CONSISTENT, and regular. Are the parts Available? or Do I have to make them.
I will keep looking around this site and reading reading reading! Thanks!
Jon

Hey, thanks for the good input!
I have been doing more research and the 8.8 rear seems to be the right choice. I though chevy would be easy if using a chevy trans, but I guess making a custom drive shaft is not as hard as it sounds.
This is going to be a trailered drag car, not too much highway driving, but we do think will bring it out to shows around town. But being a full drag car, and such a low HP compared to other guys, Im leaning towards a 3 speed. Also Im going to try to keep it simple, so I'll most likely just get what is already out there.
Lastly, we are going to be doing the rear end setup at the shop ( DSM Graveyard ). I have a few buddies who have done rear end setups before. We are basically going to just by a kit and parts from Comp engineering. Shouldn't be too bad.
On the Firewall, we already moved 80% of it, ( all accept where steering is for the moment) and then we will plug it with aluminum or something later.
Ill get pics up, we have been busy, but I think we have cough up enough to finnally get it in the shop and start workin on it.
Thanks for the help, Ill keep ya posted
