4g63t swap into Gen1 Montero?

Post by k3werra »

Has anyone thought about a 4g63 swap into a first gen montero? It came with a carbed g54b im assuming mounted transverse since all monteros are 4x4s. Im thinking this would make the mounting a lot easier and the inherent problems with switching the 4g63 into a rwd position. Thoughts?

i think you'd tear the shit out of the trans/transfer case very quickly, and they arent that easy to come by...

I'm pretty sure these are mounted the same as your typical rwd.

well i know that people have done the g54b swap pretty easily supposedly a bolt on. I was thinking just a stock 4g63 200hp doesnt seem like a lot but it could be for a 20yr old tranny. Always wanted a 4x4 4g63 thought this would be the easiest way to go instead of a 4x4 mighty max

If you are worried about the strength f the drivetrain, go with a 4wd gm auto trans or toyota manual.

Do you know of any 4wd GM transmissions that will bolt up or has available adapters for the 4g63? I know Bushur sells a kit for a rwd GM tranny.

one of Bill's 4G63 to Powerglide should work- the PG should have the same bellhousing pattern as the TH350/TH400's...

Using a new transmission will make it start to get complicated I was thinking. Probably swaping in a g54b is the easier way to go to get some turbo power.
