I have a 95 talon awd tsi...had a rod knock (im not doing a rearwheel drive swap)
I took the motor out last night and sure enough after pulling the pan we struck gold =) so it looks like crank walk due to the bearings wear on the crank
now i have a question....im thinking about doing a 2.3 if im right all i need is a
4g64 crank (does year matter?), and custom pistons (where could i get the pistons) and what other odds and ends would i need? besides your normal bearings and rings and stuff.
I know you guys are real knowledgeable so what do you think ?
Have you looked into the 2.1 destroker kit? More displacement...good revs. Its hard to argue with Check out dsmtuners for more info on it unless others can provide it. I think its the 4g63 block, and pistons...not sure on the rods...and the 4g64 crank...but I might be remembering it wrong.
The 2.3 uses the 2.4 crank/2.0 block along with a piston/rod setup . You can go with a stock length rod along with an appropriate piston, or you can go with a longer rod and custom piston to get a better rod ratio.
Thanks for clearing that up...Its been so long since I even considered one I didn't remember. What Piston/Rod set up for the 2.1? Is it the 2.0 Rod w/ 2.4 piston?

No, the 2.0 and 2.4 share the same rod length from the factory. It uses a longer rod which gives it a nice rod ratio. There are a bunch of different combos out there today.

Will the 2.0 block take that big of a boring? (to a 2.4)
