My 1989 Mighty Max

Post by MightyMike »

Hey guys, new to the forum, lots of great info on here, sadly found if after messing about 80% through my project without any outside info...

So far ive got a stock rebuilt 1G engine, stock head, super tight 14b, SPF exhaust manifold. Ive cut the firewall, made my own wiring harness from a 1994 Talon harness, down to each wire, re-lengthened or shortened, all nicely loomed up and hidden when installed. Last few obstacles that Ive had to tackle is the intake manifold (just need to weld it, looking for a nice TB flange instead of reusing the one i cut off the other side.) and picking up a different fuel tank (Originally a carb'ed truck)

Ive got an EVO 8 intercooler for the front, got custom done up radiator hoses and modified my water pump accordingly. Dummy empty head on the motor in the pics.

When I got it, G63B engine. Note the 2BBL Holley Carb... lol

4G63 Mocked up to make sure would work.

Flywheels. Took a FWD DSM and machined in a Pilot Bearing

Clutch disks, Had a custom disk made with heavy duty hub and truck spline

Yeah I cut the firewall. The truck didnt come with AC, and the cam angle sensor goes right into where the outlets for the heat are. I live in FL so, heat isnt an issue

That is a nice clean truck! Its nice to see there is someone that is doing the same project at the same time. I'm sure I'll bounce some PM's to you when I can't figure out what the hell I'm doing. :)

Right on! Im gonna get the head on it this weekend and can then put exhaust manifold and turbo.

I was reading someone elses post about intake manifolds and really liked the idea of the swapped intake... like.. 180 degrees 1G intake, but It just had me go one more step... im gonna get a used EVO 8 intake and put a 1G flange on it. this will get rid of the injector bosses and have nice intake at the same time.

So, should have some progress here soon. Truck hit the back burner this week as I picked up a clean 1G AWD with a buttload of aftermarket on it with another complete 1G FWD subframe with motor / tranny, etc with more aftermarket parts on it, plus a big pallet worth of parts all for $1000... couldn't pass that up was too damn good a deal.

Got the official head on it today, timing belt, front cover, pulleys, started on putting the exhaust manifold / turbo together in the garage. Need to get me a EVO 4+ intake manifold to modify and use, and it should be ready to go.

I decided to go a different route for my intake, I was not liking the hack and chop cut of a 1G manifold plus it wouldnt flow as nicely as this.

EVO 9 Intake with a 1G flange, fits absolutly perfect. Ill get another pic of it on the truck this week.

I like the evo 9 intake. I thought about doing that before modifying my magnus intake. What kind of power do the evo guys make with those? Too bad the intake flange isn't the same, that would be too easy. :D

the flange does bolt up, you just need to block off EGR and kinda clip part of it and do something about the extra injector bosses. but it is a small port like a 7 bolt head. so... use a 7 bolt head... I like my way.

Well, it started for the first time yesterday, working out some minor bugs like kinked fuel line.

Waiting on alt relocation and water pipe from head, but got my intercooler setup and its running!

here are some recent pics.
