Depowering a p/s BOX (D50)

Post by shroder15 »

Ok, I was on a few other forums and came across some guys depowering the P/S racks on the DSMs, and it got me wondering...Can you do the same with the p/s box on the D50's? The link below is what the guys are using as an inspirational how to on the DSMs. Any info or opinions would be great. Right now, my lines would be looped, but I'd prefer to make it work better if possible. Thanks in advance!

you could just hunt down a manual steering box for the MM/D50; seems a lot easier to me...

I'll throw my 2 cents on this.

I looped my lines on my acura integra. I didn't dissemble the rack just looped the lines and add a small reservoir. I still keep small amounts of ps fluid to keep it lubricated. The reason for not just swapping in a manual rack is that my power steering rack now has resistance is of a normal manual rack but the turn ratio is higher.

I would try it and see what happens. However there are tons of these vehicles at the junk yard, and Im sure you could go grab a manual rack for 40 bucks. My ram 50 already has a manual rack so I've don't have to deal with this problem.

The turn ratio is why I was trying to stay with the P/S Box, but I wasn't sure. I know the manual rack is easier, but the darn thing isn't gonna run tomorrow and if this works, it saves me 35 bucks (axle grease) and I get a better turn ratio. I'll try it and if it works, I'll post up with a how to. It cant be that difficult as there is a small box, not a full rack.
