Rear diff not centered?

Post by citrus3000psi »

I picked up a new axle today in the junkyard to swap into my truck. This axle was from a 4wd and I just today noticed the input on the rear diff is about 1+ inch towards the passenger side. What are the ramifications if i bolt this up? I'm imagine the transfer case on the 4wd had the axle pushed out to the side. But my truck is 2wd so my axle will be coming straight out the back of the motor/tranny. Thoughts, opinions?

Thanks

they all are , from a corvette to a ford F 150 every passenger car and light duty truck is 1 to 2 inches off to the passenger side, the engine is off to the passenger side too

extra room was needed to center the steering wheel and pedal arriangement on the left side of the engine

Thats good to know Bill, I had noticed that before and other people also but never knew if it was designed like that for sure or not. Thanks

Just as long as the U joints are 'in phase' you shouldn't have a problem.
