hey guys, i finally got started messing with my 83 starion after months of letting it sit due to work. I'm using a harness that dj fabbed up for me (thanks again for your help mike) wich came off of a 90 dsm donor car. i plugged everything in like i was supposed to and when i give the car ignition, i get no spark or injector fire. now i must add that im using a push button start and i am getting plenty of fuel pressure to the rail when the ignition is on but thats about it. i also did put a test light to all the connectors on the dsm engine harness with the key on and i do get power to everything.
the only thing that i am missing is an o2 sensor since i dont have a o2 housing yet for my swap, and i also have my knock sensor dangling from the harness. would any of these 2 things cause the problem?
i'm really not too bright at reading diagrams and i couldn't really figure one out if my life depended on it so i really don't know if i should connect grounds or check for juice in other places.
does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
sorry if im unclear about anythng, ive just had a loooong week
thanks in advance
David
i really cant figure out my no spark/no inj. fire problem

Did you check spark at the plugs or just assume that since it wasn't firing you didn't have spark?
On that turbo colt I had, I thought the same thing but shot some carb cleaner in the intake nd it fired for a few sec.
Your injectors may be sticking shut. If you do have spark at the plugs, try what I did. Then pull the injectors and spray some cleaner in the pintle side and gently push teh pintle inward to the body enough so the cleaner will get in there to do it's job..
Otherwise recheck your grounds (I've ruined grounding by painting parts and making stuff all purdy all to grind some of it off because it wasn't making contact..)

yea i did check for spark with a spark tester and i even went as far as sticking a screwdriver in the plug boot and grounding it off with only about an 1/8 from touching ground while someone cranked it over. as far as the injectors go, they were freshly refurbished before i dropped them in and i tested them with my diode testers for signal.
i guess i can scrape some paint off here and there just to make sure im getting good ground but im pretty sure i am getting the ground though since i tested ground connections already, but it wouldn't hurt to ground some more.
who knows maybe i missed a ground somewhere
dj did jot down on my ecu pinout sheet that i did have a bad knock sensor ground wire, but would that effect ignition on 1st gen dsms?? either way i'm going to fix it.
i do have some questions though, does the coil pack and igitor chip need to be grounded to complete a circuit??
thanks again

i have had 5 1g dsm's and i have had problems with 3 of the ecu's (leaking capacitors). if there is no problem with it i would say your CAS is badscreemin eagle wrote:take the ecu out and open it up and check to see if the caps leaked on the board. if they did then most likley the ecu is shot very common.
