Clutches for R154 Transmission?

I dont know why I am having so much trouble with this lol. Bill says we need to use a "standard 9 inch" toyota disk with the R154 transmission.

I want a 6-puck sprung clutch. So are the supra clutches a standard 9 inch? and / or when I go to order the clutch what exact vehicle do I tell them?>

I dont care if its act, clutchmasters etc.

just use the first gen Mitsubishi clutch of your choice ( stock OEM single disc, double disc, triple disc, what ever) AWD, FWD it dont matter, and have the spline of the disc ( or disc's) changed to the Toyota input spline

'Bad Dude' is the guy to talk to

it is built EXACTLY as the First Gen Mitsubishi set up was designed, so ANY clutch designed for the Mits will fit with the provision of having the disc spline changed

the starter location designates whether the flywheel is AWD or FWD but the clutches are all the same

i used a dsm act 2600 pressure plate and called a local performance clutch shop and had a custom 6 puck sprung disc made. it was about $120 works good so far. no slippage but the boost isnt up and i dont have the slicks on yet.

I talked to Southbend Clutch some time ago about doing one of these clutches for me. They seem to offer a great product at very good prices. They also have a very good representation of performance clutches for both cars and can easily mix and match for your application.

ya I have a 2600 pressure plate etc. I just didnt know if there was an exact size toyota clutch as the dsm one out there. so all i had to do was ask for that part number.

The clutch disk that Bill sent me was just a 9" Toyota disk. He says it comes from a Toyota 22RE engine like those found in a mid 80's pickup. Part number is NS189237. (I think). With a 2600 pressure plate, this clutch should hold just fine up to 300+hp and probably more. It's a standard full face disk.

sweet thanks. I kind of have my eyes set on a 6 puck tho.

It seems like there should be a "sticky" of the part numbers of clutches that people used with their R154 tranny. Like ACT numbers, clutchmasters or just oem numbers. Or..... we can just do what bill said and have em change out the spline lol.

Im shooting for 400 - 450. And I will be searching for ways to put that to the ground lol.

well i havnt hit the dyno yet but my clutch so far is holding 20 psi with sticky road race tires. id say its easy in the 300 range with my setup and no real tune. as soon as i figure out the tranny leak ill hit the dyno and try to get some good # hoping for at least 400 rwhp on pump anything more than that is bonus

that is awesome and 300 - 400hp sounds fun for sure.

I talked to ACT about replacing a spline on a DSM clutch. They are working with the info I gave them.

I am basically just looking for the most cost effective way of getting a toyota splined 6-puck sprung clutch. I might just order ACT clutch: 6224207 which comes from a toyota truck I beleive? with a 22r engine. (that info is from "cali." that is the clutch he is using.)

The price on that clutch tho came to around $175 with a 2-3 week wait.
