lengthening a driveshaft...

Post by boise-nic »

I've called one machine shop so far and they want $200 to extend the MM's shaft by 3". I know there is some balancing they must do but it seems like a lot. Is this reasonable? This is a pretty critical area that I don't really trust myself to make full penetration welds and somehow balance it.

sounds reasonable, maybe a little steep but not hugely

bear in mind driveshafts have to be a one peice unit so the simply cant just tack 3 inches on to the tube shaft

a whole new shaft must be made for it

Thanks. I wasn't aware that the driveshaft had to be of one continuous piece. I was under the impression that they would simply weld in the section and balance it. Learn somethin every day :)
