for a cheap get you going option i love safc's. on my old 1g with a 20g web cams safc and a chip i made 352 awhp at 19 psi with factory timing. with some race gas and i advanced the case the car was making some serious power. unfortunetly i never dynoed it in that form but i can say it went 12.30 at 110mph blowing the end tank off the intercooler.

emanage seems pretty cool just very pricey imho after you buy everything for it. ultimatley your best bet is a link. i have one in my quest and my 2g daily driver and they are great

take a look at the AEM, fully programmable, I adapted the eclipse unit to my Mighty Max. Takes some wiring skill, but completely achievable.

I had to use the Eclipse Throttle body and convert from a distributor to a dual coil. Previously I was using a SAFC and a custom e-prom from DSMLink. DSMLink is highly regarded also. and great guys to work with. The forum support is better than the AEM Forum.

Dsmlink is the best way to go, its a eprom setup that allows you to control all your ecu perimeters, save maps, and datalog. Very easy to use. And if you contact them when ordering it, you can tell them your current mods and they can set up a base map for you to start out with.
The cheapest way to go is a SAFC, which is still a good setup. Many people have made nice power off this. Then later add a GM MAFT.

Make sure you get a AEM Wideband when tuning, this thing truely helps out.

Also while you putting the head on the block, its a good time to install some Brian Crower cams

I also would go with dsmlink. If you went with a safc, you need to also have a way to datalog. Dsmlink has both datalogging and tuning together so you really would not be spending too much more than a safc/datalogger combo, especially if you went with a used v2 link.


Mike, why did you guys run the safc along with dsmlink?

I wasn't running DSMLink, They just cut me the custom PROM to accomodate my mod's.(threadjack in progress)The software is designed around a Turbo DSM application, I was Normally aspirated. Also, the truck motor uses a Distributor, instead of the Dual Coil, and the throttle body ISC is different. They would have had to develop software for what they saw as a very small market, no dice. DSMLink is really 2 Parts, the E-prom really sets up the communication link with the software, and the DSMLink Software really does the rest of the work. I was (still am) using a Zietronics Wideband O2 to do the tuning in conjuntion with the SAFCII. I ran out of adjustment range ofn the SAFCII later on with my mods and switch to the AEM for the Eclipse, made the changes mentioned above in addition to using the Distributor Base for a CAS (which it does for the stock system)and slapped in the Turbo.

For the price and what the DSMlink does, you cannot go wrong with it. I have used a SAFC and a datalogger, made nice power with it. The dsmlink allows you to do more and control more for tuning. AEM is still the best but you can do the same with dsmlink. DSMlink 3 is really nice.

I see Mike. Fwiw, I also wanted to add in that you don't have to use an aem wbo2, like Mike stated he uses a zeitronics, I personally like the innovate lc-1, most of the name brand wbo2 setups are pretty good, some have a broader a:f range and some have extra outputs and whatnot, all a matter of your setup and preference.
