Hi, my name is Patrick and I'm doing a 4g63t conversion on a L200 ute.
Does anybody know the distance between the back of the cylinder head and firewall on the mightymax trucks? I have access to a machine shop at school and want to know if its possible to make a custom water neck for the back of the head. If all goes to plan I'll be picking up a 4g63t in the next few weeks, and I'll start a project thread then.
Distance between cylinder head and firewall on mightymax

space looks to be spot on 2 inches for the stock 4G64 head to the firewall.(long shower)
I'll pick a different Avatar......how's that!

By sayin solves the problem...you mean that with the stock mounts, you will not have to cut into the fire wall for the thermostat if you use the 1.8L neck? You would have to use the lower portion too I think.lsr mike wrote:I believe it is on this site somewhere that the 1.8 L engine water neck solves the Mighty Max firewall clearance issue, later today (after my shower)I will measure the distance and report back.

The lower housing on the 4g63t works fine with the 1.8 upper housing, that is what I have on my truck. Fwiw, if you are not planning to clearance the firewall, you will need to relocate you engine foward, I moved mine approx. 2.9", but you can get by with a little less than that. Lemme measure the truck...boise-nic wrote:You would have to use the lower portion too I think.
^Ah ok I see. I moved mine 3" forward and it seems to clear fine but the thermostat housing pipe isn't angled the best. If I remember right (I'm at work) it points right where the passenger would sit. I presume the 1.8 housing runs at a right angle to the block? In other words, it discharges straight across to the passenger side with out being angled back towards the cab?

Yep, it runs at a right angle to the block. Fwiw, I measured my setup, it is required to relocate the engine or clearance the firewall to run this t-stat housing.boise-nic wrote:^Ah ok I see.
