back halfing a car consists of installing either a 4 link or ladder bar rear suspension setup with usually coilovers a narrowed rear some solid boxed frame rail and wheel tubs. compition engineering sells some rally nice kits for this. you might be better off calling a chassis shop or seeking out some sort of chassis builder forum. good luck

Measure twice, cut once. just kidding. basically it will depend on the type of rear end you will use, and type of 4 link setup you use. If oyu use one with a Panhard bar, that will be used to adjust and hold the rear axle centered, or where you want it. If you usa a triangulated 4 link the 2 upper arms usually keep the punkin in the middle, the arm length adjustments center thing up.
How do you find the center? How long is the rear axle? what are the offsets of your wheels? How wide is your car? divide by 2.
also google is your friend. Check out the mini truck sites, where they do lowering & airbagging etc... lots of info
