What's behind the cas in the quest firewall

Post by 77amc »

Well, like the title states.. What is directly behind the CAS in the quest's firewall? (besides insulation) and how far back izit?
I gots an idear but need to know how much room there is.

I helped change out a heater core last year but didn't think to measure anything at the time. And I really don't want to pull another dash just to see.

Thanks. Errol

Wrong! The engine sits lower in the car than this.

I can't honestly remember what's back there myself. What's your plan? Bang it in?

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

I picked up a couple of CAS's from different yards and was a wonderin if something could be made like the "flex-shafts" that one would see on a dremmel tool to be routed through the fire-wall, back inbetween the blower and back out where the ABS res-pump would go..

Kinda like the speedometer cable.. How fast does it turn? 1/2 of engine RPM's ??

One would still have tuning accesability through the engine compartment, and the wiring would only have to be lengthened slightly..

Working with luggage every day, I see these little open bearings for the wheels and thought that there's got to be closed bearings that are tiny for high speed apps.
I wouldn't think that the resistance is that great either, so I think a small round plate with two 'tangs' tacked on

DANG IT.. this poop computer keeps freezing up..
At least it let me submit it..

That was wierd..... Anywho, tangs to fit into the slots of the back of the cam. And all that should be able to be made to fit in the head behind the cam I would think..
And for more space in there, you could cut down the cam at least a 1/4"

DJ, since you were messing with these, how many degrees can it be turned?
What does it 'tell' the computer? Would it help any by advancing/retarding the slots?
On my 89 Prelude, you can file/drill out more movement to the CAS housing to get more advance from the cams (you can only get soo much advance from the cams before the computer doesn't like it, so you have to fool it by adjusting the cas on the cam side).

Waddyaguys think?? I wish I would have gotten that jewlers lathe back when..
