R154 instalation.
ok who here actually has put this beast in the starquest or anything yet?
well mine is in the car finally and i had to beat the ever living shit out of the tranny tunnel to get it to fit. with the motor 2" foward the cross member willl work with spacers and some fab work wich i need to do still.The bigget issue is the shifter. unless you have some sort of shifter extension housing your gonna run into trouble. by my rough measurement of eyballing it a jdm shifter extension housing from a toyota soarer will land it almost dead stock location.unfortunetly i think you have a better chance of getting a lap dance from jessica alba then finding one. there seems to be another option from these guys but its $350 http://tech2motorsports.com/products.php?p=424 here is the only pic the have http://tech2motorsports.com/products.php?p=77

i saw that while searching and that doesnt move it back enough.
i was considering cuting the tunnel open but then i would have to rip the interior out of the car again make new motor mounts and box the fire wall. id rather figure out a shifter instead.

something like that would work but the tunnel doesnt have the hieght to fit it. the tranny is about 2" lower than the stock unit. grrr i wish i started the build with this tranny i would have boxed the fire wall ran front exit cooling setup and bolted the motor in stock location. oh well theres always next time.

well i got the shifter extension installed the motor and tranny back in the car measured up the drive shaft and got it made. i just have some minor fab work on the tranny cross member and adapt a line for the slave. and finish up my fuel line and regulator.here are some pics.

it was $350 i ordered it from tech2motorsports in southern cali. you can get the same thing from driftmotion. tech2 are a bunch of fucktards. they charged me for ups and sent it usps they also didnt give me back the shifterbushing and the turnaround was twice aslong as they told me. oh also that is the one for the 2jz in a 240 they move it 3 1/2 inch's back.
also i dunno if you had the motor and trans in the car yet but your gonna have to hammer the shit out of the tunnel to get it to fit or cut it and open it up. and for the tranny mount i used the regular r154 tranny mount and cut it up shortened it a few inch's its now solid so if you can get a used on i would. i was able to mod the stock cross member to work by moving back to the last mounting holes but i had to ream the holes becuase they are like a 1/8 in further apart.

i finally got a chance to start test fitting everything...you're right, im going to have to hammer the crap out of the tunnel; i marked where it needs to be banged in.
got any pics of the brackets you made to move the engine 2" forward? any mods to the crossmember...it looks like it might fit barely but i won't know for sure untill i bang in the tunnel.

77amc: no the ac lines will have to be custom made wich really isnt a big deal. there are a few places that can do that locally by me so it should be a small issue.
cali for the mounts i used the mm/d50 brackets and made my own mounts out of 2x5 rectangle stock and just re drilled it to move the motor 2" foward. much easier than making elaborate plates or bracket IMHO pluss i plan on making some decent power and was scared the rubber mount was gonna tear. ill see what i have for pics of them. i didnt snap any shots of the cross member but what i did was move it back as far as possible but the holes in the tunnel were further apart so i reemed them so it would bolt up. them i ground the ribbed stamping off one side and welded a 1/4 steel plate to it and drilled the patter for the supra mount.
you can kinda see it in this pic. i cut them on an angle to access the bolts easier and welded in some gussets to make them stronger

i bought the manifold off a guy in club3g.com and just had it cut and rewelded to make it a top mount...seems very sturdy so im hoping it will last.screemin eagle wrote:what header is that? ive been looking at evo top mounts and they look like they might work with minor adjustment.

just to recap. i got a new slave after the last one broke. i used the conquest slave rod and it seems to be working the clutch pedal is kinda low but i have not adjusted the clutch master rod yet. tranny shifts pretty good. no crazy noises or vibrations other than harmonics from having all solid mounts. gearing seems ok lugs a little bit but once boost comes on its all good.i dunno maybe a gear set swap in the future to 3:90. i guess ill work out the bugs and tune it first.
so am i the only one whos car runs with this tranny so far?
anyone know of a speedo adaptor or cable thet will work.

so i finally made some progress on this install but im having some problems...i decided to move the engine forward 2" after all since i didn't like the fact that everything was so tight but for the life of me i can't get the motor brackets to sit on the mounts right. i included some pics to show what i mean. if one gets bolted down the other side will sit too high...do i have to slot the bracket or something? i used two brackets with part number MD041030.



also it looks like i have to extend the shifter 2 3/4 inches.

wich belle houing do you have ? is it the one where you have to shorten the input shaft? i have one of the originals and with the engine moved foward 2" i need to move my shifter back more than you. if you search on supra mania you will find factory parts that move the shift back an inch or so with it there it isnt so bad thats how my d50 gear bax was. if you heat the shifter arm and bend it you should be able to make it work comfortably

i'll look into those parts but i'll probably just have it extended...i have someone local who can do it for me dirt cheap.
