All the oily, spinning bits

Alright, here's the second part of my brainstorming. Thought I better put it in two threads to make a little bit more sense out of it. The truck that I want to swap into is a 2.6 truck, and all the talk about the transmissions has me wondering if the truck trannys and the Starquest trannys are the same. This way I could do the internals swap like you guys have done and get the same end result. Anyone know? Thanks again...

At first this was just like a curiosity thing, now more and more I REALLY want to do this swap...
Well, now I've got the truck, should I do the swap? :)<br><a href='http://www.handcraftedracing.com' target='_blank'>http://www.handcraftedracing.com</a><br><a href='http://storm.prohosting.com/likness' target='_blank'>http://storm.prohosting.com/likness</a>

sorry to go a little off-topic but why do you need to mod the trans? i thought America had ones that bolt straight onto a narrow-block VR4?

Yeah, the ones from the D50 and Mighty Max trucks with the 2.0 will bolt on, but everyone keeps saying they're not strong enough to hold up. I don't know, maybe I should just get it and run it till it does blow... :D Thing is though, I want it to be tough because I plan on running it at the drag strip now and then.

I have heard that the 2.6 trannies bolt to the VR4 motor. No proof yet. Hope to see one at the National Starion meet in July. Who's going?

I mentioned it in the other thread but there are wideblock 2.0 and 2.4L blocks out there that you can do some work to to make into turbo motors.

as for the strength of the 2 trannies. i dunno. lets just see how long we can get the 2.0 truck trans to go. i had them both appart and they dont look that differnt. i really think its in the bearings. my 2.0 tranny's bearings are about to take a poop on me.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

So basically, if I find a 2.4 block with the wide pattern, there wouldn't be any transmission swapping needed? I guess it really all depends on what I can find around for cheap :), but that's good to know anyway...

In fact, I might just end up buying a D50 or Max with the 2.0 or 2.4 already in it. If I can find one that the motor is messed up in, I'll bet I can get it for dirt cheap. So I guess I'm just waiting on the right parts to turn up, and then I'll decide how I'm gonna do it.

But, I have definetly decided on doing some kind of 4G63 truck, I need something to drive back and forth to work that gets decent mileage, and we could also use it as a parts runner for the business. The main reason I even wanted to build an import is because I need one to showcase what our business can do, and the Hondas never appealed to me that much. I figure the 4G63 is probably the most popular non-Honda import motor, although the SR20DET is gaining popularity very quickly...
