where did i go wrong? clutch setup

so mating my 4G63 to the truck 5 speed i ran into a problem. im using the FWD flywheel with the stock truck pressure plate and clutch disk, and disc lays loosely between the pressure plate and flywheel. it looks like it needs to be almost twice as thick. was i supposed to use the FWD disc? the flywheel was surfaced, but i doubt they had to grind more than a few thousandts off of it. what did i do wrong?

but isnt that pressure plate too strong for the cable setup? i plan on eventually going to Bill's T56 setup, so the truck trans is just a temporary solution. i didnt really want to get into modifying it with a hydraulic pump and what not like the site talked about.

Yes, you want to use the FWD pressure plate. It will work with the cable setup

Agreed. It actually holds the power quite well, but it is tough to push down with a cable clutch. As long as your left leg is strong, you will be able to use it. Don't get stuck in traffic though, and watch for firewall flex.

I'm in the exact same situation as you are. If you are using the FWD pressure plate, make sure that it is indeed the stock pressure plate and not some ACT setup like a lot of DSM's have in them. An ACT 2600 for example is pretty stiff with a hydralic clutch, it would be impossibly stiff with a cable.

Any advice on maybe greasing the linkage or pedel assembly to make it a little smoother?

Another option is to pick up a puck-clutch and pressure plate for the truck application, Clutchnet has these for the truck:

I have a narrow block FWD 4G63, I was not aware I could use the truck clutch disc with the fwd pressure plate and flywheel. is the truck disc the same diameter as the one that came on my motor?

i believe it's just a bit narrower- 5-10mm IIRC.
