Yesterday when better than expected. We drove down to Richmond from MD on Friday. It was a nice trip. Averageda about 20mpg. Don't know if this is good or bad at this point. There was alot of traffic and other things that might make it lower. It also had 2 people, 4 tires, clothes, tools, chairs, etc in the back.
Saturday I watched alot of the Cloverleaf stuff. I was volonteering so I could go for runs if I wanted to. I was a pussy. I waited all day and was pretty well decided to not go out this weekend. Bad transmission making noise and only half a week of time on the new setup. I wanted to let Ray from MA motorsports hear the tranny so we went out on the vacant corner lot. The car laid down power nice and didnt seem so noisy. It took one trip around the lot and I was stoked. We went for helmets and by this time everyone else had gone through every tire they brought and then some so maybe 2 cars were still running. Matt and Kelly and a few others came down to watch as I went out with Ray for the first time. I had shity 7" junkyard tires on the front and $400s of almost gone Michelin 9" Rubber in the rear. The brakes also have air in them making modulation almost impossible.
It was FANTASTIC. I havent even driven a manual in 6 months. The car just did what I wanted it to. No understeer at... and this thing used to push like a pig. It might not have looked pretty outside the car, but inside it felt great. I think Brian videoed it or something. I hope so. Anyways... the tires were already starting to chunk (been that way since august). I got about 3 corners (linked !!!!!) and then I spun and smoked the tires way too much. After that all traction and control (for me) disappeared. I did a few more and it still felt great and eventually I came back.
There was alot of oil in the middle of the valve cover. We're pretty sure its coming from the breather. It was alot of oil too. Anyways we checked the level and everything looked good so I let Matt drive it. He took it out and said it felt good. He can elaborate more when he reads this.
Either way it went great. Im pretty sure everythign is still okay. Now I'm riding on ES100s on the back. We'll see how that goes. I need tires bad.

Wow! I wish I would have known there was an event like that in Richmond! I live in Durham, NC, and have been kinda looking into the drifting stuff, but I wasn't sure how many events there were around here. Looks like most of it is centered in SoCal. Where can I find out when there will be more events like this?
I'm actually a circle track racer, but I look at the drifters and know that it takes a lot of car control to do what they do. So I'm thinking, it might really help me out driving the circle track car to get the feeling of driving a car sideways. That and watching Tony Stewart do a 150mph drift on Sunday at Dega...
I was toying around with the idea of building a S12 with an SR20DET, since I used to race an 85 200SX in the Pure Stock division, and I loved that little car. Or, maybe I should just go ahead and fix the truck with the 4G63 and have a drifting truck...
Whatcha think?

Well, now I've got the truck, should I do the swap?

if you want drifting you should come to Australia, over here we have lots of race tracks all over the joint, every single one is owned by some old bunch of wankers that don’t like "dem dere jap cars" and don’t like "dis driftin stuff" and basically wont let you on unless you have some old heap of shit ford or Holden that sounds like someone playing a organ with a thong, and built to go only in straight lines at boringly slow speeds while making the most god-awful noise in the world and every red-neck idiot between the track and the nearest bar to say "woooow man! that thing sound sick" and every jap car enthusiast to say "yes, it does. maybe you should have it put down"
anyway, thats my rant.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel?

HAHAHAHAHHA. Score 2 out of 2 for cool australians I've talked to this year. I HAVE to go down there. What are the women like down there. i hear they're all hot and wild.
Joel... i wish I would have posted earlier!!! There are events all over VA and NC put on by www.lookoutdrift.com. There are alot of guys from down in NC that come up. I think there are some things happenign at Virginia motorsports park soon which should be closer to you and some at old dominion speedway. i'm going to try to find the tires to do some of those. the future of richmond is uncertain as politics has gotten in the way of a good event.
sorry if my typing is looking rough... shift key isnt working anymore.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
Man that is awesome! Just wish I had something to drift with. Well actually, have there ever been american cars drifiting? I've got an 89 T/A 5 speed that would do pretty good. Well, actually, I don't think it's got enough power...
Weak little stock 305... Guess I just have to get working on something else...

Wow just looked through lookoutdrift.com, and the ones at Charlotte, VIR, and Richmond are all within about 3 hours from me. VIR is only like an hour away, I've made it to both Charlotte and Richmond in two...
I think I know someone who's gonna be watching some drifiting...
