4G63 into S13/Sil80 Project.

Post by jezz_s13 »

Hello,

Hope there isn't an issue with posting hellos in this section? :)

For a while now I've been thinking of somehow getting the 4G into my S13, however things are now happening, bits being collected, engines being built etc.
i bought an Evo IV engine about 6 months ago, stripped it down, it was a nail, so lost a bit of enthusiasm; however another good engine (Evo VI) has been sourced and we're back on track, enthusiasm restored.

In my quest for info I stumbled across this site/forum, would you believe it a forum dedicated to making the 4G RWD? Excellent work guys! 8)

My story is this, I currently run a CA18DET which is around 480/500bhp at present, though I have a GT35R waiting to be fitted so will be looking at 600+ around the summer time.
However, fun that this may be it's not as much fun as a stroked 4G63 with .5l more displacement and 7-800bhp is going to be.
I'm not interested in the SR, i don't see it as an upgrade, and the RB/2JZ isn't really suited to the nimble S13 chassis IMO; so the 4G wins and that's what brought me here.

I'm going to have a good look around here, but I expect I'll have a barrage of questions for you; and hope to put some of my knowledge gained and experiences back into the forum.

All the best,
Jezz.

My best advice is to check and see if that EVO6 motor has mounts on the block you can use. Also, if you're thinking of using one of Bill's bellhousing options, you should compare your starter plate (same bolt pattern as the bellhousing) to the EVO1-3 and DSM parts. I'm sure he can make whatever pattern you need, but for ease of install and for our info here, it would be beneficial to know.

Were you planning to stroke that motor? We don't know too much about the EVO 4-7 here in the states. What parts are interchangeable with the EVO 8-9 and earlier EVO 1-3 and DSM stuff? If my memory serves me, the EVO 4+ should all be about the same other than minor changes in things like head design and accessories. Fill us in. Post a project thread when you get some stuff together.

I have posted on another thread asking for assistance re the mounts for the block, if I took some pictures of my block, could you confirm that it has the bosses for the mount bolts?
Or could you post pictures of a none evo block with the mounts attached?

As for stroking it, I have a 7 bolt 100mm stroke crank, which I'm pretty sure is out of a 4G64, then I'll be using stock length (150mm) Manley rods (either tuff or Pro 300M), and custom pistons. AFAIK that's the same that you guys would do.

I'll confess I'm not expert on the Evo engines, yet. LOL
But as you say E4-8 (and possibly 9) are all pretty much the same as for layout, but E4 block is badly designed around the centre main (crank walk). I have no proof but it's said that E6 is the first stable block, lots of E4 oners use the E6 shortblocks after their crank gets wrecked.

It seems odd that you don't know the Evo that well, similarly we don't really know the gen1 and gen2; we didn't get the talon, eclipse etc in the UK, and not that many E1-3s.
Until I found this forum and spent yesterday reading it I thought a 4G63 was a 4G63, apparently not. :D

[Jezz the evo 4-8 is the same] evo 9 is diferent for the mivec, you willnot be able to check the bolt pattern of the 1g because the starter of the evo engine is on the bottom and the 1g is on the top but you need to use a
2.4 lancer plate is the same bolt pattern off the evo and have the starter
in the top inthe same place of the 1g.

Right, cheers. :)
So it's just the head that's different on the 9, the block is the same?

Regarding the starter, that sounds an easy fix, certainly one of the easiest issues to resolve.

What clutch do you plan to use? i need a twin/triple, do you know of any Evo clutches that Toyota splined plates are available for? Exedy/Giken etc?

Does the E9 block have the lugs for mounting the motor mounts?

What are you planning on doing for the intake manifold?
At the minute I'm considering butchering my custom CA plenum, but if there's a suitable alternative I'd rather not.

Seems like you and me are going to have the same issues. :D

Yeah.

I don't know anything about the ae86/levin, other than the drift kiddies seem to like them.
The guys on driftworks would most likely be able to help you though.

Ah right, that explains it.
I didn't realise the illegality aspect, i assume that's an emissions issue?
