waterpump pulley?

Post by Gentleman Rogue »

what waterpump pulley did you guys use when doing your 4G63 swaps? the reason i ask is i used the MM waterpump, and now the waterpump pulley sits out roughly a half inch further than the balancer pulley down low. did i do something wrong?

i ran a 1g pump pulley with shims becuase i have no power steering. it all depends on what water pump are you running and did you move the flange and what crank pulley

You have to press the flange down further on the shaft when using the mighty max pump. When you do this, be sure to support the backside of the pump to avoid damaging the pump housing or bearings.

Edit-now that I think about it, I believe I may have used the original flange off of the dohc pump since it gave me more clearnce to press the flange down further than the mm flange would have let me.

so you guys are saying im going to have to get a puller tool, pull the flange off the waterpump shaft, remove the waterpump, brace the back side and press on a flange from a 4G63(fwd/awd waterpump)?

heres what it looks like now, judging from the shape of the flange, i dont think i could press it on enough to make the pullies line up:

The knock-out on the backside if the flange is the reason I used the flange off of the original dohc pump. I you need a flange, I may have one.

i also did something similar to what 89 colt is saying
cant remeber exactly waht tho as it was 2 years ago now

think i used the original truck one, though pulled it off then turned it around and re pressed it as i think it is recessed in the front side?
so allows you to press it further on to the shaft

i dont think that would help any- as that offset on the otherside of the flange would just push the pulley out that distance. looks like im looking for a junk 4G63 pump. any suggestions on what other waterpumps are the same that might be more common? like, in case i have to go to a junkyarD?

I have done the swap and stated what needs to be done, what else would you like to be said about it?

there is a search feature on this site. I have found that each pump is different. If you use a aftermarket pump the shaft can be longer. If you use the factory pump and press the center of the pulley it will work. I have a napa mightymax sohc pump on my motor with a 91 dohc turbo motor water pump pulley with the center pressed and a goodyear belt. No power steering though and rear exit t-stat housing. I hope this helps.

i just used the dohc pump on mine with the original pulley. i made the pipe for the lower rad hose so i wouldnt have to modify anything when it comes to repairs, need a pump just get the original and install and go for a drive. simplicity is what i am striving for

I used the mm 2.0 pump, I took the 1g pulley and modified it in a press to line up. Worked great but I was only running an alternator.
