4g63t BMW (PICS ADDED)

Post by nick0900 »

Hi guys have just dropped evo 3 engine into my e30 bmw and made mounts, drive shaft ect ect, my next problem is wether to go the track of an aftermarket computer? Im wanting to keep the engine bay nice n tidy and dont mind spending the cash on an aftermarket job, but what are the main advantages vs disadvantages? I am currently looking at a linkG4 storm, have decided to also go down the track of NOS aswell wether that is a factor?

Any help would be appreciated.

DSM link will get the job done but youll need to deal with a factory DSM harness = messy. I am using Microtec LT10 in my e30 check out Central Florida Turbo, for more info Fernando has everything you need for around $1100. Do a search for CFT and youll see some of their work. For the price I dont think there is a comparable true standalone system out there. If you want to spend more I would consider Autronic or Motec.

Post some pics of your swap, what trans did you end up using?

Ok sweet cheers, The link has 34 wires in total so would be quite tidy I think, has a map sensor to run upto 22psi which should do me for the moment, also running the aftermarket comp mean I can get rid of the ugly airflow meter. Yeah Ill upload some pics just how do you do that though??[/img]

You can definitely clean up factory harness to look good!

As for MAF, you can ether go with 2G or EVO 8-9, they look nicer and flow a lot more than 1G. Or you can use GM MAF. Now, you do not even need a tranlator if you get V3 DSM Link.

Speed Density all the way ! But if you have the time and skill to clean up the harness and dont mind MAF the V3 DSM link that Leon mentioned would deffinatly get the job done. Im impartial but ive seen great power put though both configurations

just a note, the Link he's talking about is an NZ-based aftermarket ECU, and probably not the Link you guys are thinking of.

Thanks, I machined the water neck on a lathe myself and then bored a hole in the head on a mill and taped it out to suit the appropriate thread.

The water neck is awesome. Also, why didn't anyone else think to just lengthen the outlet tube to clear the pulleys? The simplest answer tends to be the correct one. I assume the oil pickup will clear your modification. In doing so, you've also created a nice area to keep the oil from moving away from the pickup under acceleration. Nice work.

Yeap clears all the pulleys, I might not run a thermostat jst plug my radiator hose straight onto the water neck it what do you reakon? I will just have to put temp sensor for gauge and fans somewhere else.

most engines will run hotter without any thermostat- you need some kind of restriction to keep the coolant in the radiator long enough for it to cool off.

I really like this, I've got a soft spot for the E30, and BMWs in general.
I've got a couple of E36s, I'd like to put my current engine into one of them once the 4G is installed into my S13; if I don't have to sell it to raise funds for the 4G job that is.

This is really cool.. How far back is your front crossmember? I just saw some very fast BMW's on youtube last night making somewhere around 700+hp. I can't wait to see yours on there too!

I always wanted to make a chevy conversion for years now. That's why I asked about the crossmember.
The 4g is a front sump and it looks like you have tonnnss of room up front for the kickout.
Did you 'help' the weight transfer by moving yours back behind the wheel centerline?

I likes dis one.. :P E

Wilbur: With the 4g63t in the suspension sat alot higher than what it should have so the 4g63t is alot lighter which i guess is a good thing.

77amc: thanks for your comment, the front crossmember hit the sump by about 50mm (2 inchs) as you can see in the photos i had to chop the sump gas weld it up then add an extra bit onto the sump and gas weld that to make up for the area i cut out. i wanted to bring the engine forward more as there is heaps of space but then my gear selector on the gearbox would not have been in the right spot and I didnt want to modify that or space the gear box housing, hope that helped thanks.

Heres a couple more pics of the engine, custom drive shaft and custom engine and gear box cross member.

Just waiting for custom clutch which is being made and once thats done then I can drop engine and gear box in. Im running a 4600lbs pressure plate with a ceramic 6 puk clutch plate and cromoly flywheel, my question is do you think the standard bmw e30 master and slave cylinder will be ok on this setup? Any input would be great.
