Twin Cam conversion questions

Post by widebodywoody »

Hey guys, basically, I am currently doing the DOHC head onto a SOHC 4g63 block.

I have swapped the DOHC front assembly onto the SOHC block, and it fits nicely, the head is sitting on the block atm, and I have put on the DOHC crank and balance pulleys. Currently I am trying to fit the belt, but I know I am missing 2 things, theses:

What I can gather is that I need them, but I dont know how or where to put them. I can't find a bolt or bolt hole anywhere that would suite. Am I missing a bracket? Or something? There is only the water pump bolt I can see that might work for the left one, but the right hand side is off the side of the block, so I can only imagine that one is a bracket. Picks would be awesome, as thats what I have been searching for but most people have the plastic casing on so it blocks it. Cheers.

if you are talking about where to bolt the tensioner and idler pullies for the timing belt then yes its the front bracket on the motor that doubles as the bracket for the front motor mount, i went to a machine shop to remove the part that i didnt need so it was a cleaner set up. if you need bolts or that bracket just take a trip to the wreckers.

Ahh ok thought so. Anyone got a picture of what the bracket by itself looks like? Would be a huge help. Thanks.
Oh and is it just the one bracket I will need or are there more?

Ok I need more help. I found the bracket in my box of goodies, but the I overlooked it because I can't see where it bolts onto.

Now I have the bracket:

And as far as I can see, only one bolt hole lines up at a time. The top one seems best, but that would never be strong enough to hold it... Any ideas? Cheers.

Ok last post sorted, the hole for the bracket was hidden behind the gasket.
Thanks

Cheers.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a 4G63 Galant DOHC or EvoI -> EvoIII workshop manual. This would help me a hell of a lot. Because most of my problems is just identifying what bracket goes where and what they look like. Cheers
