I have a 1984 Dogde D50 with a canadian-spec 2.0 liter 4G63 sohc engine backed by a standard 4 spd transmission
Would it be possible to swap a 4G63T DOHC head onto my engine without doing a whole swap? or would it be more worth my time to get an entire 4G63T and swap it in?
I've heard you can swap a 2.4 4G64 head for a 4G63T head so perhaps i should invest in a 2.4 block?
Any help would be appreciated greatly

i would just swap the whole thing, you allready have the right tranny and motor mounts, and with the wiring and all your going to havto do anyway might as well just do it right. as for going 4g64, what are your goals? you can do alot with the 63 and i jsut think in general it would be easier in your case

From what I understand, you can just bolt the head on, but I'm not sure if there's any differences in the bottom end. I would guess that the SOHC motor's valve reliefs would be in the wrong place. It would probably be better to just swap the whole motor (like WickedTSI said), especially since it's just bolt right in. And by the time you buy the head, intake, turbo setup, wiring harness, and ecu, it'll probably be better to just do the whole motor.
Well, now I've got the truck, should I do the swap?

thanks for the info guys
i've done some reading and you could get a V-6 in the d50 and it has the same engine code as the dohc twin-turbo V-6 in the Dodge Stealth R/T and 3000GT
it was offered with an automatic transmission
do you think this transmission would have the same size bellhousing as the 4G63 or the G63B?
or would it be more worth my time to stick with a manual?

Yeah, its an AWD tranny, but if you're wanting to compare the the 3.0L 6g72 bolt pattern to the 4g63 bell housing, then that would probably help out. I have a 4g63 sitting in my garage too, but its all still in a front clip. I also wonder if the starion tranny will bolt up to the 6g72 (though I bet something would have to be done about the water housing).

I also heard that an A-904 dodge auto transmission bolts right in with the crossmember from an automatic D50, maybe i could get a machine shop to make an adapter plate for that? i dont know alot about DSM's or transmissions, but i think it'd be a hell of alot stronger than any 5 spd or 4spd that comes from a D50
they handle up to 500 hp easily and come as 3 or 4 spd i think

interestingly enough apparently the automatic trannies from 2.0 liter narrowblock engines is a baby dodge a904 automatic transmission, but with a bellhousing for the narrow-block 4g engines
anybody else have any info on these automatic transmissions?
they were used on ram50 d50 mightymax trucks until 1986
