Mighty Max coolant pipes in contact with CAS.

Post by citrus3000psi »

Simple question, I dropped my motor in today for a test fit. The coolant pipes that run into the firewall are pretty much in contact with the cas. I guess I can bend them out the way, but just wondering what other poeple have done. Is it possible to flip the guts around so the connector is at the bottom? I havn't even really investigated yet. I figured this wouldn't be too much of a problem since I hadn't read about it before.

Also are there different sizes cas's? Wasn't sure if the 96+ eclipse would work in a 1g. Sorry if thats an ignorant question. Im sure I could research but eh, why not ask why I'm typing a post up.

The 1990 CAS has a pigtail connector. This gives you more clearance if its the connector that's in the way.

I was able to bend my heater hoses a bit on the Starion to give me a little room. Maybe that will help.

Either way, the rear intake side of the engine bay is a cluster fuck.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

On my d50, I just moved the hose out of the way and then tightened the clamp down to hold it there, my engine has been relocated ~3" foward as well.

Well, sourcing a 90 cas seems difficult. So since i have to do something I decided to rip apart my cas unit. Pretty simple process I just rip the connector out and hookd up 4 wires. There currently coming out of the stock hole but I plan on drilling a hole on the bottom and poke them out through there.

This only took my about 30 min to do. So worth the time if it works. How sensitive is this thing? I think I dropped it once ha. But everything seemed to fit back together perfectly. So i guess I wont know until I fire it up. I took some pics to show how close I am to the firewall and coolant pipes. (I'll post them tomorrow when I get to work) The peices might as well be humping each other they're so close.

I know what you mean by a cluster fuck now.

If my motor was 3" forward I wouldn't have a problem. I'm planning on keeping the motor in the stock location for the time being. Actually, I'd prefer to source out a 95 head and run the crank angle sensor with a 95 eprom ecu.

Sorry for the shitty quality, I really need to upgrade my camera. So its pretty obvious whats going on here. I just ripped the connector our and soldered 4 wires on and used some shrink tubbing (Thats what is white in the picture).

I plan on making a cap and routing the wires out the bottom. Hopefully this will work.

Is the engine still mounted in the stock location? As long as the wiring is ok, this should work fine :)

this should clear no problem even if you have to "tweek" the heater core tubes a little to the left, i had to bend mine more then that to clear on my project
