front t-stat housing setups-any issues yet?

Post by 89coltgt »

I am wondering if any of you guys running the front thermostat housngs with a stock hg off of the head have had any issues so far. Are any of you guys make 400-500+ whp with this setup and are you monitoring the coolant temp at the back of the head?

I have no personal experience, but I spoke with a guy at the DSM Shootout with that purple Challenger who runs his that way. He actually runs the factory t-stat housing off the front of the head with a custom setup. He told me he drives his car on the street a LOT and has had no issues. I don't know if this is enough to sway me to run it off the front of the head though.... I might have some pics of it, I'll dig around a little.

I know exactly which car you are talking about. I am in the same boat as you, I would like to see a fair amount of cars running like this that are not track-only cars and make a good amount of power w/o any problems.

Agreed. Until I find some solid data I will probably just stick with my plan to run it off the back of the head. I am hoping to run it under the IM like JP did, but I'm not sure about clearance. Anwho, here is a pic of that Challenger:
