Evo8 4g63 Rwd Questions

Post by sonicevo8 »

I just recently recked my evo 8 and my motor survived. I also have my S13 silvia sitting In my back yard waiting for my Ka-t set-up to be done. I found much more Interest In swapping my 4g63. I found some kits on bushur racing but those kits are for the Older gen 4g63's.

I know custom mounts, custom driveshaft, I need an adapter plate for a Rear wheel drive tranny. Oil pan fab work and a custom intake manifold, If anyone has any Info on this It would be great! I'm working with a shop who Is going to do the fab work but If there Is any kits that would be great!

I know the water neck Is on back of the motor and that would need to be moved. I seen a water pump block off plate? would that mean I need a Electric water pump? They have a alternator relocation kit for the older 4g's but I wouldn't need that cause the alternator would sit perfect as a SR20 alt would sit.

The motor made 440 Awhp and 420 Awtq In my EVO so I would need a tranny that could Take that power and abuse of clutch kicking and hard shifting. I'm also trying to workout how the clutch system Is going to work as It Is a pull type clutch.

Bill has got his hands full now just keeping up with the bellhousing he's making already. Wish he could find the time for this as its the wave of the future for 4G63 swaps.

Maybe he could outsource production and stick to making prototypes ;-)

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

My guestimate is that it will cost you at least 2 times more to adapt an EVO8 engine vs the DSM engine. Unless you just HAVE to have the EVO8 engine, I would sell it buy a cheaper DSM 4G63...

I don't think it would cost twice as much, but there are a few problems I'm sure. that would come up.

I think a few shops have done RWD Evo motors, so they might have an adapter plate or something we are not aware of.

As much of a premium as people get for Evo motors though, you could seriously sell it and build a mean 6 bolt.
