yeah i have been reading this forum and i have been very interested...i am from the DSMtuners community and very interested in starting a truck project and i was wonder if anyone could help me with a swap guide on what truck to use(which model) what to use...how to? etc... would be very much appreciated
Any Ram50/D-50/Mighty Max would work but its easiest to start with
one that has a G63B, 4G63, or a narrow block 4G64
also, a twin turbo 6G72 from a stealth or a 3000GT would bolt up to a V6 tranny from a Ram50/D50/MightyMax, you'd need the motor mounts from the V6 truck engine
Which swap are you talking about? There is the 4G63T swap and the 4G64/4G63T hybrid head swap. From DJ's experiences you're probably better off doing the head swap if you don't like changing your transmission often.
thanks guys! you actually cleared up alot im pretty mechanically inclined so i might give this project a shot...if anyone has a write up wit neccesary steps that would be helpful
im lookin for a truck right now ...i dont kno if i should get the 4wd one or the rwd one and i dont kno how to tell which engine is in which?
thanks for the help
I still don't know which swap you are referring to. If you get a 90-92.5 RWD truck it comes with the 6 bolt wide block 4G64 which the 4G63 turbo head and accessories will bolt onto. Just plug the extra oil holes and use a 94 Galant head gasket. You can use the same front cover, but you need all the 4G63 DOHC timing belt components. The rods are the same as the 4G63, but you will need a set of pistons to lower your compression ratio. Then you will need a harness and turbo ECU, preferrably 1G. As mentioned before, you will need to modify a few things like the throttle body location, thermostation relocation, and swap fuel rail fittings.

Jay has a thread on it <a href='http://beatingyou.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100' target='_blank'>here</a>. [/quote]
Mike,
A couple things to clear up. The 6 bolt motors have no extra holes to plug in the block, that's 7 bolt stuff. Also, you will need to use the DSM front case (and thus the DSM alternator...I forget why though. Oh, because the belt tensioning methods are different. There is really little truck engine left, except for the actual block, oil filter housing, and oil pan.
Jay, you are correct I double checked the cases I had in my garage. Thanks for clearing that up. Oh, and what about oil squirters, does it come with them?
my 2.4 w/b doesnt have oil squirters.. and the oil pan has very little baffling.
Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.
thanks guys for everything...im thinkin about doin this swap...it sounds fun whats the difference between the 4wd trucks and the rwd ones? i would use the 6 bolt block which im familair with...anyone gonna write a tech writeup on this conversion?
The older 4WD trucks are the 2.6L 4 cylinder and the newer 4WD trucks are a 3.0L V6. I believe the bellhousings are exchangeable on the 4WD transmissions, so you might be able to use a V6 truck. But the 4WD transmissions have never been noted for their strength, and most Mitsubishi 4x4 enthusiests use the automatic transmission for its higher durability.
