WANTED= Good NON cracked 2.6 head

Post by 77amc »

I'm rebuilding my max engine unexpectedly and don't have all the parts to do the 2.0t swap right now.

So, does anyone have a GOOD non cracked/warped head that is for sale?

I've seen the ones from Clearwater and look to be cost effective compared to a hard rebuild of a head that might crack again.

But if it's a good price...

Let me know with Good Clear pics. I've waisted too much time trying to look at blurry camera phone ones

Thanks. Errol

The thing that bugs me is that this truck had 224+K on her and you wouldnt have known that the head was cracked.
I'm gonna try and reuse it with a couple of mods that I learned from an older friend and see what happens..

If it runs, it runs If it don't well. I'll just drive it craked.

Thank you sir, Who knows.. I just might need it then. I'm gonna try this one out and see what happens, so if it IS bad I'll mail ya.
It didn't run all that bad at all before the b/s chain pooped on me.

Where are ya now?

This is kinda wierd, did you ever live in Memphis and have a little dog named Toche' (too-shay)??
After my wife and i married we lived in an appt and got to be pretty good friends with a "Hank Hawk" and his wife. Then they moved to Little Rock and kinda lost touch.
Strange huh?

An oldr friend of mine (who passed away) had been taught the processes of machining and fabrication in Germany and had all sorts of coooll little pieces and tools. Even tools to fix tools.
ANyhow, he had purchased a tool (looked like a broken air chisel tip) and was excited about it..
He tried it out on one of my older Honda heads that was cracked (dry crack)
He proceded to use it like a air hammer to hit outside of the crack about a 1/4" and slowly worked his way toward the crack kinda making it burnished looking.
He didn't charge me and the car ran well and didn't overheat and eventually selling it.
I may try something like that on this head. Like I said, you would have never known it was cracked in the first place.

Smog, I'd thought about that but I'm thinking of turbo'in it with the 4g64 later on but not right now. SO i just can't spend the money on something I'll be taking out in about a year or so.

Thanks.

that's what I was thinking smog. I'm more leaning toward that probably most people that have cracked heads don't even realize it. and the slight coolant/water that comes through actually doesn't give bad results until it really goes.

Even my machineshop bud said that back in the day with these 2.6's, even after a 300$$ or so weld job it would still crack just because you can't add that much weld up under the seats without totally blocking the water/coolant passage.

I wonder how one could get a cross section of the marnel or clearwater heads in that area.

And to help in overheating, i thought of using the quest oil cooling adapter that I have since water is only about 60% of the cooling and the oil is the rest.
I had stripped a 90 daytona and will use the BIG e-fan as a pusher. And if I ever get around to making it a turbo truck, I can just leave the talon/quest oil cooling sys there.
