So here is what happens when your fram oil filter seal fails at 100 MPH, in your 4g63 RWD.

Did the seal fail (not very common) or did the filter back off (extremely common)? Was the filter tied down by some mechanical means? Because that would eliminate the back off scenario.
Ether way, that sucks

Nope, it was still very tight to the block and the seal is just pinched. Maybe a low spot in the filter housing. I will take it apart when I am not so sore and maybe find out more.

Is it just me or does that filter look too big for that oil filter housing?

It looks like you also had some pretty high oil pressure. What RPMs did this happen at? Do you have a ported oil relief valve for high RPM?

No its a stock JDM motor with a stock pump. The oil filter it the correct one and is not too big, it just looks that way from the angle. It actually blew between the 2-3 shift, approx 6000 I think, just after it pulled to 8500 (according to my DSM link). I actually let out the clutch while the tires (all 4) were being oiled. Didnt see any smoke so I didnt know. I will have a much better angle as soon as the other vid is posted .

DSM motors tend to make too much oil pressure when reved much past the factory 7k redline (especially when balance shafts are removed). That is why it is recommended to port our oil by-pass valve (same idea as porting stock WG flapper, to reduce boost creep).
That might have contributed to your blow-out.

It looks like at one point the person taking the video looks down at the ground at a possible oil leak(?) leading up to the starting line? Or is that something else? Was the filter replaced before the race?
At least the car didnt roll over!

I had tested the car over and over agian before going to the track with no problems. It just picked the worst time to blow.

Guess who else's filter seal gave out? ME! WTF! I test drove this car around the roads up here for several hours over 2 days and it takes till I'm over 300miles away at a drift event to show itself. Oil everywhere. Got red flagged after putting 5 quarts of oil 1/4 of the way around the track. I didn't even shut the car off. I thought I was waiting for another car up ahead or something.
Still not positive it was that but the oil drain line was fine and there was no other possible source on that side of the engine.

This looks like it can be a huge problem. my oil filter is suppose to be for a prelude, it looks the same and fit, hope it works. lol

I bought a K&N and I belive it will solve the problem. It uses an O ring in a deep grove as opposed to a flat surface trying to capture a flat gasket. I am redoing my oil cooler as well, AN all the way with a B&M supercooler. I should have it back up and running soon, when the cage is finished

. Oil on the tires can be scary fo sho, be happy your car is a little longer than mine and you werent doing 90.

anytime an oil filter blows off, its because the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump stuck, it has nothing to do with the filter or the lines, its because the oil pressure has exceeded it pressure design and the oil filter is the weakest link in the system.
the mechanical oil pump by nature has no way to put an upper limit on how much pressure it makes, the RPM's go up and the oil pump continues to raise oil pressure.
The oil pump presure relief valve is just a piston in a bore that is spring loaded, when the oil pressure exceeds the pressure of the spring the piston is pushed back in its bore and exposes a hole that dumps the extra pressure / oil harmlessly back into the oil pan. This valve is in operation at all times, you just don't realize it, when the engine warms up and you hit max RPM's the piston is all the way compressed and the oil is draining back into the oil pan but the pressure on the guage remains high , because the RPM's are high.
If this valve/piston sticks in its bore and does not allow the oil to bypass the system, the sytem overloads with pressure and blows off the oil filter because all the oil lines and galleys are internal and there is no where else to go

I do not know how many of you have been into DSMs back when there was DSM AutoX at the DSM Shootout, but tightening the oil filter was a REQUIRED step in the tech inspection.
IMO, EVERY 4G63 that races MUST have some sort of safety wire on the oil filter (and dip-stickā¦).

you can adjust the pressure by changing the spring rate on the piston in the pressure relief valve in the oil pump.
The bad news is ,if the piston is sticking, its because the oil has been contaminated with something, like bearing material
