Project update

Post by tjc »

After a year of work, I drove the D50 with swapped in 4G63 for the first time tonight. Funny, first run was smooth but I was not impressed with the power. A million thoughts went through my mind (ie trashed tubo I rebuilt myself or some other tuning nightmare). Went home and started working on other issues and remembered my list of things to do from 4 months ago #6 get correct sized cotter pin for wastegate solenoid.
So it was not hooked up.
Lined it up and used a paper clip and the thing ran fast. Awsome. Oh yea, the "ugly" O2 housing hasn't failed after one hour of driving. Sweet.

Now I have idle surge I can't quite diagnose yet. No complaits though.

boost leak check. you most likely have a vacuum leak somewhere causing that surge.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Right on, huge boost leak in fact, multiple places. I'll let you know what happens when I get em fixed.

FYI, don't unscrew the BISS too far when the intake is pressurized to 20 psi-i almost shot my eye out.
