Intro... 1987 Dodge Raider 2.6L 5spd 4x4 to 4G64?

Hi all!
Longtime member of SQF (2002) and several other Conquest/Starion forums.
I've owned a 1989 Conquest, an 87 Conquest, a 93 Talon TSiAWD and sold them all.
My new ride...
..a 1987 Dodge Raider 4x4 with a carb'd 2.6L and 5 speed.
I've been looking into the money necessary for a decent 2.6 Turbo swap from a Conquest along with MPI and all the fab work required.
A friend of mine is trying to talk me into a 4G6x swap.
I'm not too new to the T/E/L line OR the Conquest/2.6 line...
I'm glad to be here and thank you for the space.
My question is:
What will I need to look into purchasing for a 4G63/4 swap into a 2.6L Raider while retaining 4WD.
What block will I need (I assume a "wideblock" 4G64)?
Do I pick up a donor 4G63 head to add to the wideblock?
I'm planning on some kind of engine management, a strong forged rebuild of whatever motor is needed and most likely a 20G or larger.
What do I do about transmission compatability?
I *must* retain 4WD capability because I live in CO and this is/will continue to be my daily driver!
ECU considerations?
Thanks for any insight you can present!

Jason, it sounds like you have a good handle on what you are looking for. If you want to keep the mitsu trans, just get youself a wideblock 2.4 and build it just as you would build a 2.4 for a dsm. You will need the 4g63 head and 1g turbo harness/mpi if you want to use a dsm ecu. The carbed swaps are pretty easy since the dsm harness can be treated as it's own system and it only really need about 5 wires to be hooked into from the chassis. I have a big folder of info from when I swapped my 88 d50 if you have any questions about the wiring, plus there are quite a few members here that can help with that as well and there is info in the wiring section.

Holy crap!
So the stock transmission in my Raider will bolt up directly to a 4G64??
That is good news! I guess the things to consider then are a source for a 4G64. I'm pretty sure they came in quite a few vehicles, like Hyundai and such.
Can I order up a performance clutch and flywheel for a Conquest/Starion since it's effectively the same transmission in the truck as those cars?
This sounds more feasible that I had hoped! Anyone here swapped a 4G64T into a 2.6L 5spd Raider yet?
Thanks! (I'm starting to get excited!)

...oh and I hate to sound like a retard, but what do you think the chances are of integrating a working A/C system into the mix. The truck does not currently have it... and if I want a female passenger, I need A/C by next summer!

You need a 4g64 out of a rwd platform in order to get a wideblock. You could also swap in a wideblock 4g63 for that matter. As far as the a/c goes, you may be able to use the brackets and compressor off of the donor vehicle.

Awesome.
Sounds like things will come together faster than I thought. Especially if I go with a stock turbo setup for now and do a full rebuild later.
My future plans are a fully built motor with a GT35 and DSM Link or some other engine management.
If I can run with an ECU and 1GMAS setup for a while I'll be happy.
As far as the 4G64 RWD platform... what vehicles do I need to look for?

A 2.4 mighty max/d50 is what you need to look for. There may be other vehicles with that engine, but I do not know of any off the top of my head. Be sure to get a 6 bolt.

I'm doing A/C on the Starion swap i'm doing now. I'll post whatever i can about it. Not sure how you'd add A/C into the cab though if it didn't already come with it.
How much power can those 4X4 transmissions handle? I'd be reluctant to build it up too much if the transmission can't hold the power.

Jason, How about a 4g64-auto GM billhousing- Turbo400- 408 t-case??
I know it would be an auto but you would be able to spin all 4 tires to...
I think advance adapters make pieces to make the trans work. Even a t350.

Thanks for the info so far guys!
I've thought about an automatic, but I think I'd have more fun in a manual. The auto swap is something I've never done before either, as far as switching out the interior parts needed, etc.
So, will a 88-89 Conquest tranny work in these trucks? I thought they were similar except for the gear ratios.
I'd be interested in figuring out how to swap the gear ratio from a S/Q to the truck as well. I think the truck is 4.56 and if I remember, my conquests were 3.55...
That would be a bit more manageable.
Looks like I need to find myself a 6 bolt D-50 2.4 liter and a head out of a DSM.

I'd love to see what info you have about the A/C!
So about the S/Q in your sig... you a copper?

I finally went and picked up my 88 Raider 2.6/5 speed parts truck today.
Equipped with an LSD and a bunch of straight body panels for my Raider. I'm going to be keeping most everything as a backup for my truck until I get it the way I want it then sell the rest on the Raider forum I frequent.
I'm gonna part out my first vehicle! I'd like to get it stripped down so it is so light that me and a few neighbors can pick it up and set it on a flatbed trailer.
The motor "went bad" according to the PO, while his son was driving it. I don't know what that means. I won't need it, but I'm gonna throw a battery in it and see what it does. I'm still planning on building a 4G64 for it.
This truck was sitting outside for three years. I got attacked by wasps from the 5 nests throughout it (that I have found so far)...
I still need to source a wideblock from a Mighty Max and a Conquest transmission to have rebuilt, a turbo, 4G63 head, proper rebuild components, an EEPROM, 2GMAS, etc, blah...
I've been busy with my TBSS and my Ninja lately!

Mind if I ask coz this is the first time that I knew that the raider is the chrysler version of the Pajero. Both trucks have the same features and shares only one platform which means their parts are interchangeable?

Zombie threads are welcome. It builds on the searchable knowledge on the site.
Yes, Pajero = Raider.
The same right down to the inclinator on the dash. Many parts are also compatable between the Starion and Mightymax.
