kweeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!
no lets work out the details, how do we do it better?
Sorry for the long over due response Bill we been working on getting the car running. And to awnser your question, I dont think you can make it any better fitment was great required zero massaging. Starter lined up and meshed perfect, clutch engagment is good.
If you really feel that you wana make changes I suggest you intergrate a flywheel inspection plate, instead the once peice sandwich plate make it 2 peice with the lower half being removable. Thats about it I cant wait to tune the car and put some miles on it and report back. I will be updating my build thread after we dyno late next week.
so let me get this straight. As of right now your plan for a customer is for them to get the following:
4g63 with flywheel choice (just an fyi, the starter motors are different, but they are interchangable, the difference is internal)
have the flywheel machined for the pilot bearing
pick up a t56 and tell you the shaft length
get your kit (bell housing, TOB, fork, slave, PP???, and clutch disk)
then the only thing left is the DS and clutch line?
ok here is the deal,
I used the original AWD flywheel pressure plate and starter, I opened the center of the flywheel out to allow the input shaft of the trans to pass through it, then I built the pilot bearing into the crankshaft not the flywheel
I used the original Mits clutch fork and pivot ball, I supply the slave cylinder , and now the pilot bearing and spacer
The throw out body and bearing I used is from the w -series transmission or I build them for you
The clutch disc was built by Dan @ compitition clutch for about $150.00 bucks I am working with Dan now to have complete clutch kits built at a reasonable price for street guys under 450 hp and also a double disc version for guys building over 450 hp so that you can get all the correct parts in one kit without having to hunt around for seperate pieces
I have the short shaft in stock, I have to cut them but thats only a 3 day turn around
I have to finish the wide block R 154 in the next week and then I want to re visit the T 56 long shaft and short shaft version and make it compatible with the EVO bolt pattern , then I will build the T 5 bellhousing
plus I am putting a new roof on my house >;o)
This video is proof that Bill Hichner's Bell Housings are amazing. Bill I want to thank you again for making it possible to use transmision that can prove the real potential of the 4G63 platform. This was our 1st time at the track with the car 3rd pass neted a 11.30 1/4 mile. 10's are right around the corner see everyone in Ohio at the 2010 Shoot Out.
just thought I'd let people know bill got me my bell housing 1 or 2 weeks ago and I sent my flywheel off to the machine shop while I went on vacation. picked up the fywheel today and should be ready to test fit the transmission tomorrow. Great product.
by the way, what gear ratio rear diff did you guys use with that bmw?
Youll need to run a tall gear the T56 has a very low 1st gear(either2.66 or 2.97 depending on yr) . We tried the stock 2.78 R&P and the car did like 75MPH in 1st gear. We now run a 4.10 and it loves it.
I'm going to try out the stock 3.545, but I already have a 4.75 gearset for later down the road. Just wanted to make sure I was making the right choice. I plan to rev it really high so with the 4.75 I still think I'll get close to 60 in first, LOL

I've got a 3rd with 4.22:1 from my 1-ton Max if needed..?

I get lost about time, we been working on bellhousing design for about 3 years here on this site, so i forget new guys dont know what the goals were.
Its all cool to throw out any questions on the thread, that way everybody knows what going on
i try to keep all my stuff under $ 400.00 and I try to use as many OEM parts as I can so it dont bust a guys wallet to build a hot rod
everything I have built so far is the narrow block first and second gen bolt pattern, I used to stick with the FWD flywheels but guys wanted the AWD set up so I have done the last couple builds around the AWD
The wide block guys are asking for the R 154 trans so I will be building that next , but in the meantime I am incorperating the EVO bolt pattern into all my current narrow block stuff
and I will be building the RX 7 option for narrow block soon
