how to remove, save and rewiring 4G63 engine harness
While I been waiting for my bellhousings, I been stripping out some cars, I thought maybe some of the new guys would like to see how to get what they needed out of the car so they could hold the cost down

well, first thing, take a deep breath and sit back, now repeat after me, wiring is NOT a problem! once you get rid of that frame of mind, you are half way there
the C-54 connector is the one with the blue collar, its the most important connector, the main relay drives the fuel pump, it has a black with red stripe wire,30amp feed from the small fuse box next the the battery on the original set up.
the engineers did not want the fuel pump to run if the engine was not running, so they wired the main relay to work when the key was in ' start' position ( for 15seconds) or when the airflow meter told the ecu the engine was running, that is all pre engineered in the system.
The main relay is bolted right next to the ECU under the dash and it IS part of the engine wire harness.
when I get ahead a little bit, I will add a schematice for you

I haven't started putting the motor even in my car yet. the harness I have was already in a colt with 4g63, from Pergrine's 73' colt. it was stripped to the essentials. Go thru the electrical posts from some other builds going on here. Or you can ask specific questions about connectors and where they go.

I'm doing a harness before my trip and I'll try to update that wiring section before I go. Now is the time to ask wiring questions and make photo requests!

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

What a great and informative thread - thanks Bill !
I'm not sure what the best way (most economical) is to go :
1.) Buy a running donor car
or
2.) Buy a 4G63T by itself
Does anyone make / sell a harness ? I just need the bare essentials, as emmision control devices is not of concern and all my guages autometer.

So I've isolated the harness that goes from the ECU through the firewall to the engine bay. I took off the rubber boot and the hole is very small with little room to snake the harness through. How did you get the complete harness out without cutting it? Did you push everything through to the engine side or take the engine side through the firwall to the cabin. Mine is a 90 dsm so they are a little different but I just don't see how it's possible unless I take some tin snips to the fire wall and enlarge the hole.

If the factory installed them through those holes, you can remove them through those holes. Sometimes you need to push the connector through sideways, but they'll always fit.

thanks bill.........if i had seen that post ah sooner i would have saved some money on the electrical that i did.......... and 2 ppl did it eh but something is wrong still............... its ah non turbo 63 i dunno if its the 1g or 2g engine
anyhow......... the engine was started WITHOUT THE AIR FLOW SENSOR
and it was revving and idling very nice
then we soldered all the wires and connected relays 4 the fan and pump and the car is not revving now!
its just giving flat spots..........tomorrow i will try 2 wire in ah 4g93 air flow and see if that makes ah difference cause i cannot get the 4g63 air flow......
will it work?

really old thread
I know this is super old but bill if you see this is the dsm harness a 90? or 91-94 cause there are slight differences in the harnesses from 90 and on? Im in the search now for a harness and this is great info.
Also would auto or stick matter if im installing in a auto setup? or is that more the chassis harnesses job?
