You better believe I'm going to make you come down and help me one of these days. Damn. Oh yeah. Where did you get those cam gears? I have 1 just like that. Have been looking for another for a while.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

This is my car and my project, something I've been working on for a
couple of years now doing all the fab with a good friend of mine. I found this thread from an email that was sent to me and I'd like to say thanks for the compliments, although I wish all the full resolution pictures hadn't been linked to my server using up my bandwidth. There are other versions in my picture galleries on my site for a reason. It might have been nice for some credit to be given too with the pictures. I'm not sure how I'm "a resource", since I will and have answered any questions that people have about my Talon, but if you want to really see hundreds of pics of the car in extreme detail, along with writeups about all the blood, sweat, and tears my friend Mark Hessler and I put into it, all available to the general public, please go visit it at its rightful home at eagletalon.net.

fc3sbob: The engine was mounted by making an set of engine mounts, and welding them to the framerails. Then, we took a set of aluminum mounts, and welded them to the motor plate. You can see pictures of most of that here.
After we had that stuff all built, the engine bolted right into the car. We also added a bar across the front of the engine, that bolts to the factory framerails. The engine is solidly mounted; no big deal since it's a drag car.
The rack was mounted to a completely custom one-off subframe that we made up. The rack mounts where the factory sump would have been on the stock engine, but we've replaced the oilpan with a new one that we built to put the sump under cylinders 3 and 4.

I sent the email ......I apologize for the pics.......I never took any credit for your work i linked the site right to your main page and I linked you right here to interact with the members here everyone whos been here should know I have a starion.....your set-up sparked more than a few good ideas for my car so yeah I consider it a resource ....sorry if i affended you an any way ...pics removed

You didn't have to kill them all; you could have replaced them with more appropriately-size versions. Like I said, I appreciate that you guys like the car - There aren't very many places that other people actually *get* what I'm doing. The time, energy, and level of build is very hard to describe to people who haven't gone through it or aren't actually going through it. So, finding thing place, where other people have also done 4G63 builds (or swaps, as looks to be the case) is a good connection - thank you for that
As for good ideas: What have you thought up after looking at my build? I'm interested in hearing about it. I have a few people email me here and there, and I'm always interested. Do you have any pictures of your project?

I got the idea of a electric water pump hidden under the intake manifold,tubular sub frame,intercooler/radiator positioning... i really like the CAD images their a good visual aid...my pics where lost in the great computer crash of 05"

The sump pickup was relatively easy. I took some measurements on the stock sump pickup tubing, and ordered up some mild steel bends of the appropriate size from Woolf aircraft. I then used a stock oil pickup, chopped it up and welded the tubing all together. I had to make a flange to bolt to the oil pump, but that was no big deal. I actually have to make some modifications to it because I only made one brace for it, and ideally I want two.
There was some concern from a knowledgable friend about oil cavitation with cold oil (~30 degree temps,) but since the car sees limited use, and won't be driven in the winter, it shouldn't be a big deal.
As far as the stock pan goes, the baffling does an excellent job of keeping oil where it should be (in the sump) - you guys launching is just like a DSM making a hard left hand corner. I moved the sump on my setup so that I could put the steering rack right where the old sump was, for optimal steering geometry.
I was also going to originally mount the water pump under the intake manifold. The CSR pump I have has two inlets, and two outlets - if I ever had to fill the block, i was going to have one outlet go to each side of the head. The CAD images are great visually, and from a fabrication standpoint. The header itself was CAD modeled to within .010" of equal length, and because we knew each and every angle, it made it much easier to produce the header. Sure, we spent our time, and did it right, but we also put a lot of effort into the model, which helped us without a doubt
With any luck, the car will be out making passes in spring of 2007.

I've been asked this on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, my time is very important to me, which would make the price of the header more than what most people would want to spend. I also don't do this for a living - this is a hobby of mine, and so I would probably be awful at getting headers out the door for people waiting for them. Because of those things, I don't really want to make these for other people. Seriously though - there are already guys out there in the DSM community who make manifolds that're reasonably priced, and will work well on existing applications. Try Ron Shearer at http://www.shearerfab.com or Marco at http://www.magnusmotorsports.com - they both have a long standing history in the community, and make some seriously nice manifolds.
