4G63 EVO Intake

Post by straightarrow »

I saw a '03-'06 EVO 8 9 intake on ebay that also said 4G63 in the title. Will this fit on my first gen 4G63 head and can I use my thottle body? It looks as though it's facing the right way for my Arrow swap. Thanx, Brent

No it wont. The flange to bolt to the head is wrong. But I believe you can modify it to suite.

You can always get a JM Fabrications inlet manifold, as they make them facing both ways.

If they are aftermarket, you can always ask them to reverse it, they usually do it at no extra cost.

You could reflange the Evo manifold to a 2G (small port) flange without too much drama. It would still involve welding aluminum, but that's not that hard to have someone do. If you use it with a 2G head, I don't see there being any problems.

Getting the engine bolted in is about 10% of the way there.
The next 80% can go quickly with help and skill.
That last 10% takes about as long as the 90% that came before it.

Thanx, I guess I'll try and see how much JM wants for an intake. Otherwise, If you see a swap intake, I'm looking. Welding and machine shops I've talked to around here give me an "I'll do it" answer but an "I don't know about that look". Oklahoma, go figure.

JM Fabrications can reverse the throttle body position at no extra charge. They are a good option.

This is for cali,
I wanted to build an EGr capable intake manifold that looked OEM to the smog inspector. first I needed a little wider material so I used a 1/2 plate and marked out the sencond gen and the EVO flange patterns
Image
then I routed the flange to transfer the exhaust gas from one side of the head to the other
Image
Image
Image
then I cut the flange from the EVO manifold
Image
then i covered the eGR passage
Image
and then re attached the EVO intake to a custom flange
Image
Image
the OEM working EGR valve will be put right in its original place for the EVO set up, if you dont desire to use the EGR passage, just change the intake gasket to block it off
Image
i will be cleaning it up and testing it out before I send it out

that looks awesome bill! im sure the smog ref over here wont even notice the change.

let me know when you got the housing done too so you can ship both of them together; no point in paying for shipping twice. :)

the inlet ports on the first gen intakes are twice as large as the EVO and second gen 4g63

the best of both worlds would be an EVO intake with the first gen intake ports

Was there something wrong with my idea to just flip the stock intake manifold upside down? You could just use your same idea of routing the EGR port. I would think most of use use 1G heads and intake manifolds due to the huge abundance from all the DOHC engines Mitsu made. I think the EVO route might be a lot of work for a a less obtainable piece.
