Drift Car

Matt and I started getting bored and we had this nice $100 parts car to play with.  So it began.  In late August I started gutting the parts car.  The goal is to use what we learned doing the original 4G63 swap to put together a no compromises full race / rally / drift car.

The plan is to put together a 2.4L wideblock motor mated to a Starion transmission over the winter, hopefully with the help of some sponsors.

A full roll cage, tubular control arms, Nissan 240SX hubs, coilovers, and steering rack up front, and a hydraulic ebrake system along with some major weight reduction are planned.  There are no class rules in drifting [yet], so the sky is the limit.  It is all being done for fun and for the experience.  And as always its being done on a college student budget.

As of right now I have $18 to my name... so this might be difficult.  It doesn't hurt to plan.

Total Wow... yeah.. that's alot of money for just the motor and tranny. ~$5,500

Wow!  Still cheaper than a STOCK SR20DET swap!  And this should easily make 600hp, 400ft/lbs.  I'm actually pretty sure I'm going to scale it down for $$ and transmission limitations.  Maybe with some sponsorships it could cost $3500 or so.  Plus I have stuff to sell.... Lots of stuff.

Crazy Plans

I have some interesting plans for this as it will be a Full 100% race car.  First off, the car is completely gutted.  We will be putting in the dash and very little trim or sound deadening.  I plan on running radiator lines through the tranny tunnel to the radiator located in the back seat.  Battery will be relocated too.  I plan on stripping down the chassis harness to the bare miniumum as well as moving all the relays inside the passenger compartment... I'll also be saying goodbye to the pop up mechanism for the lights.  Trying to make a low polar moment.  Dont want much weight outside of the wheel base.  The power steering pump will be moved to the intake side of the motor to lessen the amount of powersteering hose... plus it will make room for the top mount turbo.

The Goal
Spring '05 we expect to have a very potent, competitive and high profile drift car to be driven by either myself or Matt Martin.  Matt is the back to back Summit Point HypeRfest Drift Champion and consistent top 8 qualifier.  We are currently looking for sponsorship and are quickly putting together a media package for potential sponsors.
