Clutch

The spline on the Starion and D50 transmissions are the same size but NOT the same size as the FWD DSM spline.  This means that the FWD DSM clutch will not fit on the Starion/D50 tranny.  I have heard that a AWD clutch will work.  It does NOT!  DSMs use 7/8"-20 while the starion and all pickups except the V6 use 1"-23.

I talked to Eddie at South Bend Clutch for an agressive 225mm 6 puck crazy clutch, but later decided to go with the full face clutch (both are the same price) since this is also a daily driver and I'm still unsure of the strength of the transmission.  It's pretty cool:

As you can see it came with the disk and the pressure plate along with some stickers (WEEEEE!), an alignment tool and throw out bearing.  I paid $365 (including shipping) and the clutch was here within 3 days.  I'm very impressed with the service of SouthBend Clutch.  The real test will be the track and even worse... the commute.

Update: After a year of daily driving, the clutch has really proven itself.  Its great on the street and on the track.  It does glaze over a bit if you slip it ALL the time around town, but it usually comes back if you take it for an spirited run around some back roads.
